Disney's Diamond Celebration Float for the Rose Parade

But the theme of the parade is not Disneyland's 60th. This year's parade theme is Find Your Adventure...

It says "To celebrate their (Disneyland's) 60th anniversary..." When I hear that, whether the slogan is "Find your Adventure" or not, I expect something directly related to Disneyland's history.

These Star Wars and Frozen (especially Frozen) floats do absolutely nothing for me. I'm not impressed, but I am disappointed, once again.

That said, every corporate float is there to plug their product to the TV audience and the tens of thousands along Colorado Blvd. Disney always finds a way to plug something, usually whatever is happening that year at Disneyland.

Yes, there is always a theme, but most of the time it is very loosely followed. For example, the 2004 theme was "Music Music Music". What does DLR's Tower of Terror float have to do with that? Its title was "A Sudden Drop in Pitch". You can't argue with logic like that!

It's just a shame that Disney doesn't own any recognizable tunes that they could have incorporated into a float somehow. Or better yet, if only the Twilight Zone had an iconic musical theme that they could have connected it to...
Can you imagine if the 2019 parade theme is
Use The Force or some such Star Wars related slogan? Walt would be proud if they could pull that one off! :D
Seems unlikely that it will happen any time soon, since George Lucas was the Grand Marshal in 2007, escorted by 200 Stormtroopers from the 501st and a couple Star Wars-themed floats:

The theme that year? "Our Good Nature", which really has nothing to do with Star Wars...

Much like WDI with the themes of Disney's theme parks, lands, and pavilions, the sponsors of Rose Parade floats don't really give two hoots about the parade theme. They're going to build whatever they want, and make some lame attempt to tie it in. Some times it works better than others, but people tend to enjoy the end result regardless of whether it fits the overarching theme. What do they know? They're tourists!

The Frozen portion looked awful. Castle was fine. Star Wars looked cool.

The show moment was painful and awkward. Where was the choreography? There was no show - they all just bobbed back and forth to "Live the Magic". Compare that with the classy and spectacular number used for Disneyland's float in the 2005 parade.

I didn't see the preview pictures before the parade. After seeing the float on TV, I ended up having pretty much the same reaction as this thread. "Let's just take an existing DL parade float, tack a Millennium Falcon on the end, toss some flowers around and call it a day."

It seemed like such a last minute mashup compared to some of the other really creative beautiful floats. I think a larger detailed 60th castle float would have been a much better image than dancing storm troopers and Sadness.

This is the best I could find of what I saw on my local TV.

Dancing stormtroopers!! Along with every other float character they could find.

Why was Dracula in it? Oh wait. That was Prince Eric in a cape. I'm sure this will make the country come out to Disneyland to see the new Star Wars land and Frozen ride that aren't even built yet.
