Pre-Trip Disneymoon 2014 with Disney Nerd in Training

Hello everyone!

With all the excitement of my wedding (not at Disney :( couldn't convince the future husband) and the Disneymoon that is approaching quickly, I thought I would share our story and plans for those who live through others stories like I do.

Just a semi-quick introduction...
-Future Husband-Ty- the Disney Nerd in Training (he doesn't realize it yet, but he is)
-Our 1 yr old Pooch- Rocky- not coming to Disney with us but is still having a vacation at my parents house where he will be spoiled even more than he is at our house.
-Me- Lana ... the Disney Nerd

Yes, we are huge Saints Fans (WHO DAT!)

We live about an hour to an hour and a half from New Orleans and absolutely love it minus Mardi Gras. You would think we would love Mardi Gras since we grew up with it...NOPE... we don't like the whole standing in a spot for hours just to get a good viewing spot of drunk people riding on floats chucking plastic beads at us while getting knocked around by more drunk people trying to catch the plastic beads that are getting chucked at us. We have come to realized that in those couple of days people turn off their brains and common sense, that is, if they even have any in the first place. There is an upside to it though... no work and paid holiday! (sorry for the side bar, but I do that a lot)

Now, going back to the story.... Ty and I met through close friends and the first time we met he drunkly asked me to marry him... who knew a year and a half later he would ask me to marry him while sober. Can you guess where he asked... If you guessed New Orleans then you are right. It was perfect! The sun was setting with the Mississippi River in the background, with nobody around... or so we thought. We were watching the sun go down while making phone calls to family and friends and enjoying the moment. Well, within a minute or two a homeless guy comes and asks us for money. Ty was not a happy camper about it, I thought it was funny. I call it the added bonus to evening because there is nothing we could have done.

I pride myself on being pretty organized and planning things out so of course the next day I was figuring out details for the wedding and honeymoon. After asking him where he wanted to go for the honeymoon multiple time (mainly so we knew how much we needed to save) he brought up Disney World. :eek:I was shocked! I secretly wanted to go there so bad but it was our trip so I wanted his thoughts first before I brought up Disney. He said he knew that would make me the happiest, plus he had not been since he was 6 and wanted to go back (shocking I know!) I have been 4 times since 2004 and have been wanting to go back. He only had to say it once and I was off to plan the trip since waiting to plan made no sense what so ever.

After talking with him and briefly describing a few resorts we agreed on staying at a moderate. My goal is to do things I have never done so it will be new for the both of us and share things that I love with him (hence the training of a Disney Nerd) :) I have only ever stayed at a value resort so I am already on track with my goal!

I let him pick which resort, I figured he would pick one of the Port Orleans resorts... Nope. He picked Caribbean Beach because he wanted to go someplace that didn't remind him of home. I said ok and checked one thing off the list.

Next, after getting a feel of what he wanted out of the trip or things he wanted to do I was able to narrow things down and in the end let him pick our fastpasses (with my guidance) and our reservations since we chose to do the basic dining plan, yet another thing I have never done.:D Narrowing down the list for him was a challenge though. He is the pickiest eaters on the face of the planet. He even had "rules": Rule #1- every meal had to have meat or it was not considered a real meal and he would be grouchy if he didn’t eat meat o_O…which nobody wants that! Rule #2- All sit down meals (his words for table service) had to be for dinner… I was ok with that one because we don’t eat a lot for lunch so it would almost be a waste for us to use that credit for a lunch. Rule #3- No weird food… meaning no food with weird names, no food that he has never tried before and no food that looks different. Rule #4- well it’s not really a rule but he doesn’t seafood (which is crazy with always living in the south), doesn’t like Italian food except for pizza, and is lactose intolerant. I had a huge challenge ahead of me but I was up for it! Gave me an even better reason to do Disney research. After narrowing things down, taking into consideration his “rules”, and looking at menu after menu I was finally able to bring him a list of places to choose from. I will reveal what he picked in just a bit.
Of course I had everything picked before the 180 days mark and the 60 days mark so it was just a waiting game for me. However, when those dates came, within the first hour I could book both ADRs and fastpasses I did.
So, the moment you might have been waiting for while reading my rambling… a preview of our upcoming attraction as of now but as we all know, especially for the fastpasses, everything is always subject to change…
Friday, May 16th
Get married at a little bed and breakfast!
Saturday, May 17th
Hopefully get on the road by 9am. It is about a 10-11 hour drive depending on how much we stop, traffic and how fast we drive. I know we lose an hour but when we get there we plan on checking in then heading down to Downtown Disney to take care of the last bit of shopping. I ordered most of the stuff we wanted online when there was a good deal but some things you can’t get until you are there. Neither of us like shopping so we wanted to take care of it first thing so we didn’t have to deal with it later. If we still have time and are not too tired, we may try and hit up Disney Quest and find dinner somewhere downtown or at the resort.
Sunday, May 18th
Wake up and try and catch the opening show at Magic Kingdom. We have fastpasses for Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear and Splash Mountain. We bought the Memory Maker so if we see characters then we will stop but we do not plan on waiting in huge lines for them. Then we have an ADR at Via Napoli at 6:20. After dinner we may watch the fireworks in Epcot, float around Epcot, go back to the Magic Kingdom for EMH or head back for a semi- early bed.
Monday, May 19th
Wake up and start in Epcot. I think this will probably be his favorite park because he loves history and loves to drink. We have fastpasses for Mission Space, Soarin, and Spaceship Earth (this was a default because we couldn’t decide on anything else). We have an ADR at Chef Mickey’s at 7 so we will probably take the monorail for that. After we will either go to Hollywood Studios for EMH, go play mini golf or go back to the resort for early bed.
Tuesday, May 20th
This day we have saved to go to a water park which I would let him pick which one because I have been to both. We may go to a park instead, it all depends on how we are feeling. I set fastpasses for that day at Magic Kingdom just in case we want to go after dinner. They are Buzz Lightyear, Big Thunder Mountain and Peter Pan. We have an ADR at the Hoop dee do for 6:15 (the only restaurant I have eaten at out of the ones we picked) and after we may go to mini golf, magic kingdom or bed.
Wednesday, May 21th
The plan is to start at Hollywood Studios. We have fastpasses for Toy Story, Star Tours, and Tower of Terror. We have an ADR at the Sci-fi dine in for 7:05 so we are unsure if we will stay in that park all day or go to a different park then come back. We will probably call that an early night or so swimming at the resort.
Thursday, May 22nd
Animal Kingdom is where we will start with fastpasses for Everest, Kali River, and Tough to be a Bug. (not too many choices to choose from) Our next ADR is at Ohana at 7 and after dinner we may play mini golf or be bums at the resort.
Friday, May 23rd
Our final day we will start in Hollywood Studios to see what Star Wars Weekends are all about. Our fastpasses are for Toy Story, Star Tours, and Tower of Terror. After lunch we will probably leave because I image the crowds will be nuts! Where we go we will probably decide at that moment but our last ADR is at Coral Reef at 7. Of course on our last day is the 24 hour event… so we will probably end our trip in the Magic Kingdom (my rule ) but not stay out too late because we leave the next day. Boo.
Saturday, May 24th
We will check out early, early because he can’t stand getting back home and then the whole day be wasted. Plus we would still have to pick up our pooch from my parent’s house.
This is the as of now plan.
Other things that we will plan on doing that is not on a schedule is find as many hidden mickeys as possible. (I will even have hidden mickeys at our wedding. A few in random centerpieces, on the cake and one even on my dress! I am excited about that one!) I have never had the chance to get a dole whip so that is a must do! Finally, the mine coaster may be open when we are there so that is a try and do also.
There is just one big concern of mine about the whole thing… I have had 3 knee surgeries and Ty has had a back surgery and will probably need another one in not too long.:( Walking doesn’t really bother us, it’s when we stop or have to just stand in one place for an extended time period is when we struggle. We plan on getting the Disability pass as a just in case but hopefully we wont have to use it. I can not stand when people abuse the system with that and we would never plan on doing that. We will even have a doctor’s note with us incase we have any problems because we know we don’t look like we have any problems and don’t want to cause any issues. Hopefully everything will go great with no problems though.
Hope this wasn’t too long for you and you enjoyed it! Only 47 days till the wedding and our week long trip of amazingness. Thank you for tuning in and I will be back with any changes, questions, and the trip report!

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding and honeymoon!!! I also hope all works out with the disability pass. It sounds like you'll benefit from it, but hopefully you won't be standing in too many long lines!

Unless things have changed, they will tell you to rent a wheelchair or ECV for your problem. It seems they are only giving the cards to people with mental issues. I have problems with my feet and back. The standing pinches a nerve in my back (already had it fixed once), and the walking kills my feet. I have nerve damage from chemo years ago and the pads on my feet have thinned horribly so walking long distance, especially if the ground is hot, is torture. You'll need to consider the cost of the ECV in your planning just in case you can't get a card.
I hope you have a wonderful time. We'll be there for part of the time you'll be there.
