But this test is doing that. And anyone without a Smartphone or digital camera is out of luck. No Paper tickets will be issued. Should be interesting to hear the grips from old folks, or folks who batteries have died.
Good point. I know some elderly that still use flip phones.

I would expect Disney to be trying to push more people to MaxPass. This seems to make it easier to get by without it.

Odd move from a business perspective, IMO.
Disney does nothing that would make it easier for guests to avoid an upcharge. They're likely up to something else here that we know nothing about.

Those same elderly are highly unlikely to use fast pass or even go to Disneyland in the first place.

Don't you dare tell me about your grandmother that loves to ride Dumbo and uses fast pass all the time.
When my family and I were at MGM about 13 years ago on New Years Eve, Jimmy Carter and his group rode Rock and Roller Coaster and saw Fantasmic. But I highly doubt he needed a fast pass. 😄

I bet if Jimmy Carter went to the parks today someone in his group would have a smart phone.

You have a point, but the more I think about this it might just be a cost-cutting thing.

No printers, no paper, and maybe less maintenance related to the former. May also have some small staffing impacts.

And you are? :joyfull:

I'm just saying, Disney has a wide variety of customers and should not assume everyone is alike.
Yes. I'm being realistic. I would safely bet that out of 50K adults in the park at anytime less than twenty of them will not have a phone. I can't help the lazy that won't pull it out of their pocket and use the app.

Disney is going to need to supply free pencils and paper for international tourists who don’t bring smartphones for a variety of reasons. It sounds like a ploy to make it even less convenient, thus selling maxpass.

Or...
Reduce the # of FP machines that must be maintained...
Reduce the # of CMs needed to staff and oversee FP locations...
Reclaim a ton of space that was eaten up by FP machines in a park that even the smallest amount of space matters...

Ramming FP into the park hurt alot of the crowd management and space issues in the park. It's totally conceivable that the park is eager to reduce the # of FP stations around the park if they are under utilized if only for the space issues.

Having all that staff and equipment out there for things being used less and less is a prime opportunity for consolidation and improved operational efficiency.

Everyone hated 'having to have a runner...' to go get FPs for the group. This kind of consolidation is going to likely gain for more people than it will hurt.

It's just like retiring of public phones... eventually they just aren't needed everywhere.

Yep. There are huge sustainability benefits to this.

My take is that Disney is looking at future strategy here. Yes some people will be inconvenienced for now, but we're already pretty at the point where smartphones are Indispesable for practically everyone.

Yup. I said if yesterday, that what this is about and maybe fitting another ODV cart or two, a little more stroller parking and marginally better traffic flow in a couple areas.
