Disneyland Security vs Police

There's not a doubt in my mind that being at Disneyland is probably the safest i'm ever going to be. But I am curious as to how Disney security operates compared to Anaheim PD, obvious differences aside, and when PD gets involved.

The only time I've ever seen Anaheim PD is outside of the park in the esplanade. I've seen security in the park plenty of times. If things ever get too messy (which i'm sure happens given the ridiculous amount of people who visit the parks every year), is there always a few police officers on-sight ready to roll? Have you seen a police officer inside the parks themselves?

Can't recall seeing APD in the parks themselves, but they have a satellite office in DTD by Tortilla Jo's so there is healthy police presence.

They're always out in the esplanade, sometimes with a dog who's walking around sniffing things. I assumed they had one somewhere in the area but i didn't know it was by Tortilla Jo's

It's really not hard to spot the undercover they have at every security gate. Usually an older person all by their self with sunglasses (sometimes they have an earpiece). I see them every gate I go to. I've seen a lot of undercover older women as well. Not sure if they're with Anaheim PD or Disneyland.

According to youtube, they must be asleep considering how easy it is to talk your way into the parks without a ticket.

You sure you're just not seeing old folks with hearing aids? ;):p:cool:

Not that I've been busted by either but Disney security are some of the meanest people I've ever encountered which suprises me because they are the first official people you meet entering the park so you'd think they'd smile more often and not yell at you like a drill sgt.

That's funny I used to think the same thing until I recently flew for the first time in over 10 years and had a "lovely" encounter with the TSA. I had no clue what I was doing

I've never seen a uniformed Anaheim Policeman inside the parks, but you see them quite a bit out in the Esplanade. I generally park at Toy Story and there are always a couple of them leaning against the information booth talking to each other as you approach the bag check tent. I get the feeling they are happy for the easy gig and just hang out there watching the tourist girls go by.

As for the overall security of the Resort, I agree that it seems very lax. As we've seen from YouTube this summer, all you have to do is have a foreign accent and a charming demeanor and the CM's will let you in to either park without a ticket.

I only have first hand experience with WDW, but I assume the information is still accurate.
  • Uniformed PD is generally not allowed onstage unless absolutely necessary. This goes all the way back to Walt, he just felt having uniformed and armed police officers roaming around the park broke the magic.
  • The undercover officers are Disney Security. They are everywhere. Look for the people who are dressed way comically touristy, carrying a large shopping or tote bag (for their equipment) and 90% of the time will have an earpiece. Their primary goal is catching pickpockets and shoplifters.
  • In my experience at WDW there are always uniformed officers nearby, but backstage. Their response time is minimal to anywhere in the park.
  • Access to the park (ticketing and anything to do with rules regarding admittance) is controlled by the park greeters, not security. Once a decision has been made security will fully enforce it however.

80-90% of Disney security I know are "retired" police or military. Not saying it excuses it, but they're not really "people" persons.

Yeah, DTD is different. It's even that way at Disney Springs. Not sure why, but I'm guessing it's because it's open to the general public.
