Disneyland Resort

I am trying to decide if upgrading our room at Disneyland Resort is worth it... trying to figure out the specific difference between a standard view, pool/resort view and upper level resort/pool view... Is it all depending on the tower we are assigned?

Yup, all three towers have different rooms. Adventure tower is the oldest, but the rooms only face the parks/DTD or the pool. Frontier and Fantasy towers have some rooms with partial parks views (Frontier is best), but also have many rooms that face a parking lot. The Frontier tower parking lot views are the worst as it's really just a giant slab of concrete with a few thousand cars parked there. The Fantasy parking lot views are better because there's a lot more trees and you get a partial DTD view too.

These are the Frontier tower parking lot views, and as bad as the Disneyland Hotel non-view rooms get.

Here's a pool view room from a mid-level floor of the Fantasy tower. Really a middle range option for Disneyland Hotel room views. You can't see the parks or the fireworks, but it's not a bad view.

Would you say it is worth it upgrading? How bad does it get in the lower levels?

We are headed for the Run Disney event in May and I am expecting a big crowd... don't want to spend souvenir money on "possibly", "maybe" getting a wonderful view... lol!

Thank you! This really helps... I think we will stick with the standard view this time.

We are planning to have one day without heading to the parks so a nice view would be nice but not mandatory, we will be at Disneyland after all... :)

I would agree with what others have said. It's not like Hawaii where you might want to wake up each morning and look at palm trees and the Pacific. We'd love to stay there again but have a real hard time with the rates they charge. Even with my buddies CM rate (he works at the DL hotel), it was still $250+ a night...that's a 40% discount. Crazy but occupancy rates are high so some folks are willing to pay it.

Honestly -- the only rooms with a view at the DLR worth paying for IMO are the ones overlooking Paradise Pier at Grand Californian. You really feel like you are inside the park with those rooms. Here's the amazing view I had there last year...

Yeah, that ain't too shabby. I could hang with a little WOC from my balcony. And if you're lucky you might see some kid hurl on that curve at Goofy's Sky School : )

I'm late to the party here but I agree with the others. For what they charge for rooms at DLR don't pay for an upgrade. On my last trip we booked a room at PPH (ugh) in a non-view room and politely asked for an upgrade to a room overlooking DCA at check in and they gave it to us for free. You might want to try it.

If you are staying at the Disneyland Hotel call now and request to be in the Adventure Tower. Even the standard view rooms in that tower have decent, non-parking lot views. They can't guarantee you will get a room in that tower, but I have actually gotten my requests all but one time, so you have a pretty good chance of getting it. Unless you are going to be in your room a lot or are really celebrating something special I personally don't think it is worth the extra money.

This looks like the view from the balcony at Grand Californian that is accessible to all hotel guests. I don't think the DLR will offer anything comparable.

When I say DLR I mean Disneyland Resort -- not the Disneyland Hotel. That was my private balcony from my room at Grand Californian.
