That's a great question. It has been said that there were 31,000 CM's working at the Disneyland Resort back in January, 2020.
Then there were mass layoffs, several waves of them. How many thousands at Disneyland Resort were permanently laid off in 2020? 5,000? 7,000? 10,000?
How many are still left on the payroll right now? How many are still on furlough? Does this new recall of 10,000 CM's bring every furloughed CM back next month? Or does that still leave a few thousand CM's still on furlough?
Lots of questions there we just don't know. My guess is that at least one third of the original 31,000 CM's are permanently gone, either through layoffs or by simply moving away or finding another job while they were on indefinite furlough for a year.
I would guess that a chunk of the furloughed CM's who are officially still on the books won't return when Disney's HR department gives them a call this week. Who knows what the final tally will be a few months from now on who is left and who is gone?
Honestly, from what I've seen many salary CM's who had a decent resume, work history, skill, and ambition have moved on to other companies. There are a couple people I know who worked in operations/entertainment I had a ton of respect for who have left Disney during this. These are people who really 'got it' too.
