I caught this on the news this morning. Just thought you all might like to know...:(

I don't think anyone was seriously injured, so I'm glad for that.

ANAHEIM, Calif. Officials say four spectators at Disneyland's Christmas Fantasy Parade were injured tonight when they bumped into a parade float.
It happened shortly before 8:30 p-m.

Disneyland spokesman Bob Tucker says the four people somehow came in contact with the slow-moving float during the parade. He says three people were treated at the scene and one was taken to a local hospital. That person's condition is not known.

It's not clear how the accident occurred.

We'll get more scoop as time passes.

Somehow I doubt four people "bumped" into a parade float. Sounds like the float went off track and "bumped into" four people.

Thank God no one was seriously hurt

Whilst I'm not going to make assumptions.......the number of times I have seen CMs pleading with guests not to cross in front of parade floats and not to cross the safety line into the path of the floats and not to walk in front of a float to get a better photo and not to allow their brats to run up to a float, I will not be surprised to hear that it's a case of some guests ignoring all the warnings.

Lastest update on the accident:

---------

ANAHEIM, Calif. - A float in a Disneyland parade struck four people, including a woman who was taken to a hospital, park officials said Monday.

"A Christmas Fantasy Parade" was near the end of its route, near "It's a Small World" attraction when it hit four spectators at about 8:15 p.m., park spokesman Rob Doughty said.

Anaheim fire Capt. Jamie Hirsch said the people were hit by the simulated carpet on the Aladdin float.

"Instead of going straight, (the float) kind of turned to the side and hit the four people," Hirsch said. "The float has a piece of carpet that comes off the back. The piece of carpet struck the guests."

Two adults and a child were treated at the scene for minor injuries, Doughty said.

One woman, identified by her sister as Mayra Perez, 34, was knocked unconscious and taken to a hospital.

"(The float) hit her and knocked her out cold," the sister told The Orange County Register while waiting at the emergency room. "Her face is bruised up pretty bad."

Light rain may have contributed to the accident, which is under investigation by the Anaheim Police Department.

"The inclement weather and the fact that the ground may have been wet could have contributed to what happened," police Sgt. Rick Martinez said.

The last accident at Disneyland occurred in July, when two trains on the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad roller coaster collided, causing minor injuries to five people.

Stranger - thanks for the update. Hope the ambulance chasing lawyers let the doctors get to the accidnet victims before they start to ply their wares.

Fingers crossed that everyone is OK - including the driver of the float, who must be feeling pretty dreadful right now.

Somehow, I'm not surprised that it was that float. For those who have not seen A Christmas Fantasy, the Magic Carpet float is basically a dressed up golf cart driven by Genie. It has a lot of mobility, so he drives it right up to the crowd, like some of the floats in Spectro and MSEP do. All it takes is an error in judgement in turning, and you get this. Unfortunately, a problem like that is all too easy in costume (since Genie is driving) and with the added rain... :(

Agreed Kirsten. I was VERY surprised by this "float" when I saw the parade because of how quick and fast it moved and especially how close it would get to the crowds. The way Genie kept driving it up to the crowds, I can understand how slick roads could contribute to Genie losing control of it leading to the accident.

eh.. we've had worse accidents in WDW (and I'm not talking about Javier Cruz). Yet until Javier was taken from us, no one ever knew of these.

Tapestry Floats hitting the stands in Mexico, DSMC cars driving almost into guests, etc. They need to have better training for new drivers, and as sad as it is, only offer it to Regular CM's instead of College Program kids who will be going home by the time they're comfortable driving the floats.
