DCA is an excellent time if you're in a group who doesn't value history, quality, and good cohesive theming. It relies on the flashy new ride, pier, parade, and alcohol to draw crowds.

Disneyland doesn't rely on the hot new thing. It relies on decades of quality and good service to draw crowds.

Pretty much. DCA really only works with a park hopper.

Funny people consider Tokyo DisneySea the best park in the world yet does not have nearly as many attractions as DCA or DL yet it's still highly rated. Because its unique and different enough for it to worth a visit so I guess that something DCA lacks and your left with DL which is nice and all.

This is actually not true. DCA currently has, with the closure of a bug's land, 16 individual attractions (18 once the rest of Pixar Pier opens up next year). TDS has 24 individual attractions (25 once Soarin' opens next year). For the purposes of this comparison, I included transport rides only once and did not include entertainment venues like tours or shows.

Thanks, everyone for your feedback and the laughs! Just purchased 1 day tickets to DL and will save DCA for when Pixarland opens next year (I’m in SoCal at least once a year anyway).

If you're talking about Pixar Pier, that's already opened at DCA. Or at least most of it has, I think there's a carousel and maybe some shops still being worked on. Either way it's nothing special.
Definitely misspoke. Someone on the thread mentioned that something new is opening next year, and I thought that was it. That’s what I get for not reading lol

To answer your question I would choose California Adventures over Disneyland because Disneyland is only one but the other apparently you get more than one.

Being more of a WDW person, I visited Disneyland Resort for a few days a couple of years ago to try to 'take it in' the way I do when at WDW... stayed at Grand Californian and walked to the parks each day. In general, while some of my favorite rides are at DL, I found I could relax and enjoy more of what the park had to offer at CA. While I was there, I found DL crowded and jammed with strollers. I was less charmed by the 'history' of things and found all the growing pains of 60+ years to be distracting. Let the flames begin! ;)

I really love DCA, it's beautiful, the restaurants are good, it has some really nice rides - Soarin' and Radiator Springs Racers, etc. I always tell people that DCA is the best executed "new" park.
I personally disagree. DCA was created on a budget, and the evidence of that still exists. Tokyo DisneySea is the best executed new park in my opinion.

California Adventure was the second-place idea for a DL second gate park. It was created in a very tight budget, just like Disney Studios in Paris. DCA was not very great at opening, especially when compared to its neighbor. Disney is still trying to correct its mistakes with DCA with things like Cars Land, Pixar Pier, and Avengers Campus.

DCA is much better now than when it opened, but it’s still not the greatest park.
