Pre-Trip Disneyland July 2016- California or Bust

Hello!!
This is my first Pre-Trip Report! I've been enjoying everyone else's reports for awhile now and decided to post my first!

First a little about me and the family. I've been to WDW 12 times in the past, and this will be my third trip to DL, the second for the rest of my family. We wanted to make a trip to Disneyland to enjoy the 60th anniversary, as our last trip was for the 50th. Hoping to maybe start an every 10 year tradition of visiting this park. We are all big Disney fans, you know the kind that tears up while watching the planning DVDs, so we are really looking forward to visiting DL again.

WHO
11903723_10206591168691770_6584010770475863333_n.jpg

That's me, Brian (48), my wife Melinda (48), my son Zach (22), my daughter Morgan (18), and my youngest Jacob (14).

WHEN
July 7th to the 13th
Flying out July 7th, from Louisville, Kentucky. Landing into John Wayne the same day.
Leaving DL on July 13th and flying back into Louisville that evening.
Got a great deal on my airfare- only $440 a person round trip on Southwest!

I know, I know, Disneyland in July? The heat!! The crowds!! The onslaught of AP holders!! All the ride closures around the river!! Unfortunately, this was the only time where all of our schedules had an open time frame.

WHERE
Staying the entire time at the Anaheim Fairfield Inn. 10 minute walk from the hotel to the main entrance of the Parks, or so they claim. I will be timing my walks. We are getting a room with two double beds, and one fold out love seat contraption. I requested a third floor room facing the Parks to try to catch the DL fireworks. We'll see how that goes.

TENTATIVE ITINERARY
Only planning on getting a 5 day single day park pass
July 7th- arrive at Hotel, explore Downtown Disney and Disney Hotels, hope to eat at Trader Sam's
July 8th- Disneyland
July 9th- California Adventure
July 10th- Disneyland- early entry morning
July 11th- California Adventure
July 12th- Disneyland
July 13th- last run to Downtown Disney, head for home

OTHER
Undecided if we are going to do a Character meal this time around. We did Goofy's Kitchen and Ariel's Grotto last time. Was thinking of maybe the breakfast at Plaza Inn thistime.

Undecided if we are going to use the photo pass package, we used this at WDW last time and loved it, not sure if it will be worth the $70 or $100 this time around

Undecided on whether to get a park hopper. I think I have plenty of days at each park to see and do everything, so not sure if a hopper will be needed.

Not sure which shuttle service to use to get back and forth between the hotel and airport.

Would love to hear anyone's thoughts and/or suggestions on any of the above.
I'm planning on posting a full trip report once we get back.

We also took a trip to WDW in 2014, and would be willing to post a dated trip report if anyone is interested.

Thanks for reading!

Make sure you get a fastpass for Radiator Springs Racers or go and ride it first thing when DCA opens. For WOC, if you do the dining package skip Wine Country Trattoria. The reserved area is right at the water line and you will get very WET! The regular fast pass locations for WOC have better viewing sites. Enjoy your trip.
