Disneyland introduces so cal resident discount tickets for the summer

Also what no one mentioned is that the hotels are also being discounted between now through October 2nd with a 20-25%. That's pretty unheard of for the summer which tells you a lot of tourists are probably not filling up the resort either.

That's a pretty good deal too because you're probably saving at least $100+ a night.

So a standard room at the Grand Californian will only be $500 a night!?

Yep!

That's still nuts to me but it's cheaper than it will be in years for this time a year. With taxes and 'resort fees' you will still be paying over that but still a lot less.

Should have been a minimum of 5 days for less. It's valid through all the hottest months of the year when your trip will likely have restricted access to dining and attractions in addition to absolutely no shade in Avengers Large Open Area of Concrete Campus while you have no guarantee of winning the lottery to ride.

Rumors are the Annual Pass will come back January 2022. So if you can wait, buy it then. Spring 2022 (January to May 2022) is also the usual time for the locals pass. It's 5 months to use instead of the current 2.5 months for the summer locals pass.

Ooogie Boogie bash is rumored to return, but it will cost $130 for half day. That's a lot of money. So you should wait for off season and pay $99 for a day pass instead of $154 today.

It's a good idea to wait a little longer for more options.

I'm in no rush since I bought a much cheaper Knott's Season Pass ($105) and the SeaWorld day pass for $59 a day ($89 with dining). What a bargain!!!

This sounds like a good approach many have been advocating for years.

Discounts for locals to attractions will always be a thing, everywhere. The trouble with annual passes was, of course, crowds got so bad it wasn't really fair to people paying full price. There's also the unpredictable nature of when crowds will show up, and the influx of people on evenings and weekends.

This strikes me as a good, balanced approach. Discounts to get locals in to fill the attendance "shortfalls", while still maintaining a good experience for all guests. Shift the local experience from popping in every single weekend or whenever one feels like it, to being more selective.

I'm actually thinking about just getting the locals tickets and then passing on the AP/Membership. I think 3 visits over the summer is enough to hold us for a while and I've gotten so used to going to other parks that I don't have the same "when can I go to Disney again" feeling. The Knott's pass is a super value and I'm eyeing the platinum universal pass if that comes back. I think, though, that my need for a DLR AP is fading away. 😁

Looking at the availability calendar today I understand why this discount is being given out. Basically the rush to see the park is pretty much over and you could've bought a ticket to go today. They see the writing is on the wall and reservations are slowing waaaaaaay down now. Disneyland's birthday is not even sold out yet.

For the record, I don't think thats a BAD thing or anything but of course I have no idea what their expectations are. Considering they just released this discount program in the middle of the summer, clearly it must be higher.

Anyway this has given us the kick in the pants to finally go back. We had already planned to go a few days in August (waiting for it to get as 'normal' as possible before the summer is over) but we're now going back for the birthday weekend now and can't wait!!! :)

If you don't follow @FakeThemePark on Twitter, you should. He posted this opus today.

Wonderful changes are coming, you see!
What used to cost nothing, but now has a fee
First, transportation: You must pay to park
And you now have to upgrade to stay after dark
And early admission? No need to be prompt
It now has an upcharge; it used to be comped
Online reservations for every last ride
You just better hope that your phone hasn't died!

Once called "included" but now it's "deluxe"
So please use the app to pay 70 bucks
Remember how FastPass improved all our queues?
Well now COVID's over, so that's our excuse
To change it completely, despite the backlash
(Your online petitions go right in the trash)

So now it will cost you to shorten your wait
Or stand in the sun as your heart fills with hate
Our lines are "immersive," so bring your whole group
And listen to 25 notes on a loop
Prefer to run marathons all 'round our hub?
Just pay for the privilege of joining the club

You'll have to forgive us, we ask your goodwill
Our CEO only took home 90 mil
And we just can't find workers, despite how we try
They'd rather play video games and get high!
We don't offer health care or unions or perks
Except to say proudly "The park's where I works!"

So those are the reasons the ticket price rose
(While at the same, all the trash overflows)
We're just treading water, we're barely alive
That PPP loan just enough to survive
We know you detest the new price you must pay
You'll yell and you'll cry but you'll come anyway!
/end

These discounts remind of the last summer Disneyland was open: 2019. I'm sure you all remember the colossal mishandling of the opening of Galaxy's Edge. The confusing messaging about needing reservations scared people away. Discounts were offered. AP's and CM's became unblocked. It was the slowest summer I'd seen at DLR in decades. Looks like this summer may be even more dead. Good times.

Except I keep hearing how busy the parks are.

They seem busy. At least in terms of crowds the two times I've gone, it's in no way comparable to the Summer of Star Wars. The parks were absolutely dead at that time and it was pretty scary. That may be the worst Summer they've had in modern years aside from 2020. Months and months of empty parks, but they were actually open. Great for guests, though.

^ There are characters EVERYWHERE - at DCA alone there are nearly 20 characters appearing at Avengers Campus, then ranging from BVS to the parade route I most recently saw: Clarabelle, Mickey, Pluto, Goofy, Oswald and Max. Sadness was out on the Pier. Chip & Dale were on the Hollywood Backlot stage. And those were just the ones I caught passing by. On previous days I've also seen Minnie, Snow White, Dopey and probably more that I'm forgetting. And again, that's just at DCA. The DL side has plenty out, too. It's pretty much a character-lover's dream right now at DLR.

Shows are slowly coming back. Five & Dime have different sets out by the Carthay. And the DL Band is back. Not sure about the breakout bands or jazz band. Still waiting on Dapper Dans & Bootstrappers though.

Went to CA adventure today. I feel like the virtual queue thing for web slingers is misleading. Once you get in you still have like a 30+ minute wait. Other observations are that the posted wait times are a joke and not even close to accurate, mobile food ordering doesn't save you any time, the single rider line is not the bargain it used to be, and avengers campus is pretty underwhelming.

It was nice to go back after so long but I really miss fastpass and the freedom to spend limited time and park hop that came with having an AP. Paying full price (or something like it) and feeling like you have to make the most of it is exhausting.

Is anyone buying those web slingers add ons? It seems like very few people have them because the ride is so inaccessible.
