Anyone have any advice or recommendations either for or against any hotels near Disneyland? Headed there in the next month and have never been before! PLEASE HELP!

I'd recommend staying offsite. Yes, the onsite hotels are nice, but they're expensive. I've stayed at the Best Western directly across the street, and it completely met my needs. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was nice and there was free continental breakfast. The price was $89, plus tax; cheap. I've heard good reviews on the Desert Inn and Ramada Maingate.

I am looking at staying offsite, and want a hotel that is either close enough to walk or one that has a good, reliable shuttle.

Check out Howard Johnsons. Less than a 10 min. walk to the main gate. Mimi's Café, IHOP and McDonalds nearby. Check out their website, they usually run specials in Jan.

We stayed at Candy Cane Inn last summer. During the regular season, the shuttle ran every 1/2 hour between hotel and park's shuttle spots. It's short enough to walk, but we were patient and waited for the shuttle every time. It was very reliable -- they even sent a van when the regular bus driver was on his dinner time and the relief driver didn't have the proper license for that size of bus. Check with them on winter hours. Price was around $100 for the off-season, and the facility was well-cared for. We took "standard" rooms because we weren't planning to stay in there forever, just for showers and sleeping. We plan to stay there again. The only con is that, during the season, parking is rather tight. But they don't charge for it.

The best western anaheim inn is our favorite. It it really close, and clean. It isn't as close as the best wester park place but the anaheim in is just like two or three hotels away from it. Most of the time it took me 5 minutes to walk from room to the security stand. I do walk fast though.

We've been staying at the Residence Inn Garden Grove (1.5 miles down Harbor). Not super close but a very nice hotel that has full kitchens in every room, free breakfasts ( a very nice Buffett) and complimentary dinners M-TH. Shuttle service runs every 30 min but you have to pay 20.00 per person for 5 days. We would like to stay a little closer but you can't beat the room prices and amenities. Clean and well maintained.

I love the DCA hotel. Its proximity to everything, the restaurants and just the feel of the place. Recommended.

As others have mentioned, any of the hotels on Harbor Blvd across from the entrance to the park (near Disney Way) should work well. Very easy walk, about the same as the walk from the shuttle drop-off location.

Keep in mind, these are mostly "motels". Perfect for an easy sleep and walk. If you are looking for more of a Hilton or Embassy Suites experience, you will need to stay father south on Harbor Blvd and take a shuttle (or a long walk). The Hilton and Marriott are close to the Toy Story parking lot, so you can walk across the street and take the Disney parking shuttle if you do not want to wait for the ART shuttle that services the local hotels.

No, but 3,4, or 5 day tickets will get you one EMH morning hour at Disneyland. There is no evening EMH.

As a point of clarification, the 3+ multiday passes come with Magic Morning which is only good at Disneyland Park (usually Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday). You cannot get into DCA using Magic Morning.

Extra Magic Hours is only for Disneyland Resort guests (Paradise Pier, Disneyland Hotel, and Grand Californian). It overlaps with Magic Mornings at Disneyland Park, and allows you into Disney California Adventure an hour early on the other days.

Of the three Disney hotels, Disneyland Hotel is probably the best bang for the buck. The Grand Californian is really nice and you can't get any closer to the parks - but you pay for it. I've also had a good experience at the Residence Inn Maingate (it's about a 1 mile walk to the entrances of Disneyland and DCA).

Over the last few days I've been helping a friend plan a Disneyland trip. She is planning on visiting middle of March and many of the "Good Neighbor" hotels are showing no availability when booking through the Disneyland website. However, if you go directly to the websites of many of these hotels, you find that not only do they still have availablity, but rates are lower and the tickets cost the same regarless of how they are purchased. I had thought that booking a "Good Neighbor" hotel through Disney gave you some type of discount either on the room or on the tickets, but apparently not.

I appreciated this tip. I did what you suggested and found the same thing.
After seeing so many recommendations for Best Westertn Stovall's on this site, I booked it directly and got a great price.

So glad my information was helpful. Ironically, this is where we stayed when we visited Disneyland about four years ago. And yes, I would say we were very satisfied with it. There is nothing fancy about this place, very simple continental breakfast and the pool is in the parking lot, but when we were there the rooms had recently been renovated so the rooms felt up-to-date and clean. And of course, the price is definitely right. One thing however I wanted to let you know, in case they didn't tell you, is that they now charge for parking. If you will have your own car there, you will have to pay $10.00 a day. I found out as I was helping my friend that some of the Good Neighbor hotels charge for parking and some do not. So if you are not crazy about that additional fee, you may want to check around a little bit more. I found that some of the hotels over on Harbour Blvd which are even closer to the parks, do not charge, including one of the Best Westerns.
If you do stay at Stovalls, I have another tip for you. If you are walking to the parks from your hotel, you can take a shortcut through the Grand Californian Resort. From the corner of W. Katella & Disneyland Dr.(some maps show this road as S. West St.) head north on Disneyland Dr. toward the parks and you will come to the Grand Californian on your right. Walk on in to the lobby and then head to your left. If I remember correctly, there were two parallel hallways and the one on the right will take you out onto Downtown Disney. This definitely saves you a few steps, which you will especially appreciate at the end of the day after you've done several miles of walking! Have a great trip!

This is great information. Thank you. I wonder if they are still charging for parking because it specifically says it is free on their current web site, and my reservation confirmation says free parking. So I will throw a fit if they try to charge me for it, but perhaps I'll call to confirm in advance just to make sure. The tip for the route to the park is most appreciated!

If we're talking about the same place, I see that they charge for parking. That's one of my criteria as I'm investigating hotels.
