A welcome change. I've none cast members who have been sexually harassed and verbally abused, even with awful slurs used against them, and the pervading attitude had been "just take it on the chin." Cast members work their butts off to make everyones' days magical, often at minimum wage, and abuse towards them should never be tolerated.

Not to pick on you personally, but this sentiment is expressed quite regularly on forums such as these.

The problem with it is that it's presented as though it's exclusive to working at Disneyland. You think employees at Wal-Mart or McDonald's or Home Depot don't get sworn at or berated by upset customers? Because they do, every single day.

It's called working in entry-level customer service. If you can get a job at a higher paying place like Nordstrom or Ritz-Carlton you probably can go longer inbetween profane beratings from upset customers. But if you can't get a job at those places and you have to work at Wal-Mart or Disneyland or McDonald's, then the customer beratings will be more profane and happen more often.

I wish it was more normal for businesses to deny service to someone due to their abusive/inappropriate behavior towards staff. It feels like, in many cases, someone can be absolutely awful to a frontline worker who's enforcing a policy they were taught- only to complain to their manager who then waives policy or compensates in some other way.

If places started saying "You know what? You were a complete jerk to our staff and treated them like no one should be treated. We don't want your business" I feel like the world would be a better place.

True. I couldn't agree more.

But the problem is that too many people will cry "Racism!" or "Misogyny!" or "Transphobia!" if they aren't pandered to enough by front line entry-level workers. And then the big company that employs them will pander to that complaint and claim publicly that they value all of their customers and only want to exceed their expectations for... chicken wings, roller coasters, toilet paper, cheeseburgers, or whatever the heck it is that they are selling.

This is fascinating.

We have just gone through a few days where suddenly it's entirely appropriate, even celebrated, that Cast Members working at Disneyland or WDW can show their tats to the world and if you criticize that you are a bad person who doesn't want CM's to be happy.

But now, we are also supposed to clutch our pearls and banish anyone who uses a four letter word or foul language on Disney property?

It makes no sense. The world has changed. People swear more today than they ever did in the past. Women even swear in public now. They swear on TV. PG rated movies have lots of swear words. An entire generation of Americans have been raised to think that the only pronouns or adjectives are the F word or the S word. That's the only vocabulary they know.

And so that doesn't allow them to be on Disney theme park property? But the girl with the Satanic tattoo running the Tiki Room is just fine?

I've only had one cocktail this evening, and it was hours ago. But this nonsensical logic makes me want to have another one. Fast.

If a Disney CM wants to show off his Harry Potter tattoo to the world, it’s his bloody right to do so!

I only want him to be happy. And to feel supported. And make sure he knows his company is inclusive.

That poor little lamb has been so oppressed for the past few years not to be able to show off that gorgeous tat in Fantasyland.

I gotta be me!

As long as his right to show off his tattoos doesn’t mean it’s my duty to be a willing audience. Cause I couldn’t care less about what he found fitting to permanently brand on his skin.

No ones saying you’ll get banned for using foul language. What the policy says is they won’t be tolerating profanity directed at cast members and guests alike.

I think you have it backwards. Tattoos never hurt anyone. There’s nothing inherently un-family-friendly about them.
What actually makes the parks more family friendly is there are consequences for the man cussing out a family for blocking his view of the fireworks. Or the woman screaming four letter words at the cast member who tells them their kid is too short for Indians Jones.

There are two situations:

Security isn’t going to pull you aside for saying PG-13 words to your friends.

Security will, however, be called in when a guest starts escalating and screaming profanities at a cast member. And Disney is clarifying that they reserve to boot you out on that basis.

Oh, Security. Disneyland Security.

The Disneyland Security team will now "be called in" if someone drops an F bomb at the Fastpass entrance.

Okay, we're talking about Disneyland Security. These guys and gals that watched this play out and watched random customers intervene...

I’m gonna need a written list of all the people I can and cannot drop the F bomb to at Disneyland now. Great! As if a trip there didn’t require enough planning as it is!!!!

You haven't updated the Disneyland App lately, have you?

Try and keep up, dear. You can now report F bombs on the App, and then pre-order a corndog.

What if I use the F word while complimenting a CM? Is there any small print or FAQs to explain what would happen in this situation?

Nope. A crack team of Disneyland Security ninja's would appear out of nowhere and escort you right to the front door of IHOP.

No nuance! No fine print! What do you think this is, the tattoo regulations for Fantasyland hostesses?

Drop an F bomb, you're banned. Tattoo an F bomb though, and you may get a complimentary night in the Dream Suite.

To be fair, things have gotten so litigious that they may have been instructed to stand by. Not long ago I was speaking with a prison guard who cited this approach and reasoning in their line of work. Frightening if you think about it for too long.

Is there a self-reporting mode or is this just for ratting out others?

It's just for ratting out others. It's like the Covid Tattle-Tale hotlines all the fashionable cities set up in 2020.

You can report those who disobey, no questions asked.

Then a team of Disneyland Security ninja's will be dispatched to your location approximately 12 minutes later. Hopefully you are still standing there at the Fastpass entrance, dropping loud F bombs repeatedly, so that they may respond accordingly.

Oh, I completely get that. And you are probably right.

Which makes this sudden fascination by TDA to regulate foul language so hilarious. What planet do they live on?
