Hi All! I am making a solo trip to Disneyland in the end of July and Staying at the Quality Inn at Anahiem. This is the only day I will be there so I am planning on staying until at least after the fireworks, and maybe until park closing at midnight. How safe is it for someone to walk back to their hotel alone? The website says the hotel is .24 miles away from the park but I am not very familiar with the area. I am a 27 year old women, but I look rather young. Should I pay for parking even though my hotel is so close? Any thoughts?

I've stayed at the Quality Inn which is across Harbor Blvd. from Disneyland - Manchester Blvd. - East of Harbor, just South of I-5. (There is another Quality Inn nearby - Quality Inn Maingate).
The hotel wasn't particularly far from Disneyland itself, but it also wasn't the most direct route to get there.

I thought that the safety was reasonable, but no matter what, once you leave the park, you are in Southern California, so anything's possible.
In the end, I would recommend any woman who's alone to take a car rather than walk, just to play it safe.
Another option, although it will take up some of your time, is to park at Downtown Disney. You'll get a certain number of hours for free, and additional free hours with validation from any of the restaurants there. You can "cheat the system" by leaving midday, doing a u-turn, and pulling back into the parking lot with a new parking ticket to "reset" your free parking time.
This saves you some of the hassle of the tram to/from the Mickey and Friends structure, but since you only have one day, it may eat up more of your time than you would like when you move the car.

Whatever you do, be smart and enjoy your visit!

Honestly, I have lived in So. Cal all of my life, so I have to say that I do not see a problem with walking back, especially since there will be A LOT of people going back at the same time. If you are truly concerned you could try to wait to see if a cast member is walking in that general direction and stick around them, they will know how to take care of themselves, as they do it every day they go to work.

I went by myself to DL when I was 23 and didn't feel unsafe walking by myself at all. And I do get nervous in WDW when I'm by myself, so that's odd... but I never got that weird feeling walking back to the hotel from the parks in DL. Everyone I met there just seemed genuinely nice.

I've stayed at a ton of the good neighbor hotels surrounding Disneyland for many years.
There's constant foot and vehicle traffic throughout the entire Disneyland Resort area at all times except the very late night hours.
There's also a strong police presence.

It's always smart to be aware of your surroundings, but I've never seen anything that gave me the impression that safety should be a concern within the immediate Disneyland/Anaheim area.

Anaheim is very safe, and the Anaheim Police Department makes sure the tourist area in the Anaheim Resort District stays the safest. You are probably safer walking along Harbor Blvd. at night than you are walking on the sidewalk in front of the Mayor of Anaheim's house.

The WDW diehard fans get really bent out of shape when you mention crime statistics in Orlando versus Anaheim, and certainly WDW property has an element of a bubble around it (except for the Downtown Disney parking lots at WDW where some nasty crime against tourists happens on occasion). But the comparison between Orlando metro area and Anaheim is not a pretty one for Orlando fans. The statistics tell the story quite clearly.

You could also compare Kissimmee and Anaheim, and it's still not flattering for Kissimme and their crime problem with rapes, robberies, assaults and theft. http://orlando.areaconnect.com/crime/compare.htm?c1=Kissimmee&s1=FL&c2=Anaheim&s2=CA

These are the streets immediately around Disneyland, in the Anaheim Resort District. They are well lit, and in the evening there are plenty of nice people walking the sidewalks and creating a safe environment even in the dark.

After a short walk up Harbor Blvd., you'll cut through the parking lot of this Mimi's Cafe to get to the Quality Inn

Then walk directly across the street from this Howard Johnson's

And then a few more steps and you find yourself in the parking lot of the Quality Inn, with I-5 directly adjacent

Here's an interesting website that has pictures and information about all of the streets on Disneyland's periphery. You can find anything on the Internets!

If you leave at park closing, you'll likely be escorted back to your hotel by a throng of park tourists. You won't actually be walking "alone."
