Definitely buy your park passes on line for DL. They offer discounts too. Husband and I went to DL last December and LOVED it. Here's our pattern:

Me: 80's to mid 90's - went to DL almost every year.
Husband: 80's to mid 90's - at one point lived in Orlando - went to WDW a LOT.

Late 90-s to now - we met in 1997 - 11 trips to WDW.

We had been to DL a couple of times when we visited SoCal in years past, but never made it our "destination" til last December.

We were there a Wed thru Sat. It started getting crowded on Friday... but was bearable.

I think we have decided to go back again this December! :xmas: It is uniquely different than WDW - we like that it is all "right there". No 30-45 minute bus rides between parks. The 3-1/2 days we were there was perfect. We never ran out of things to do, but we are explorers - we like to inspect every inch.

And THANK YOU TP2000 - I too will keep your SoCal list handy. The Governator owes you some PR pay!

The general consensus is that Disneyland's Splash Mountain is the one major attraction that is noticeably inferior to it's Florida cousin, as Disneyland has more animatronics but the pacing is much faster and it doesn't make as much sense as the slower Florida version. Big Thunder tends to be a draw as there are differences, but not huge. Star Tours at Disneyland is nearly identical to the Florida version, with only cosmetic differences in the queue. The same can be said for Midway Mania and Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters. MuppetVision, Soarin' Over California, and Tough To Be A Bug also fall into the identical-except-the-queue category in DCA. You might enjoy Soarin' more since it was designed for that park and the building it is in fits perfectly, rather than shoehorned into The Land pavilion five years later in Epcot.

I've only bee to DL once (Nov 1991) but it did came a little over a year after I had visited MK (Aug 1990). I distinctly remember liking DL more. In particular, I thought the DL versions of SM and POTC were much better than their MK counterparts, and of course the Matterhorn was amazing.

At some point in the next 3-5 years, we are going to take a trip "out west." We live in central Indiana, so we will probably take 2 weeks. But we will definitely end up at DL and stay for at least 2-3 days. :)
