Disneyland Forever Disaster/Question

So yesterday I was in the parks for the first time since moving to California with my family. It was also the first time we got to see the DL 60th (which is phenomenal) and after watching Paint the Night (which I and everyone else LOVED) we got our spots for Disneyland Forever. The show starts, but it's absolutely silent as the castle and Main Street are illuminating with LEDs and projections. For the first couple seconds I was just thinking it was part of the show, but when Tinkerbell came out to mute surroundings I knew it was in trouble. Shortly thereafter a cancellation announcement was made, recieved by large awwws and boos. Funny thing is, I wasn't even that upset about the cancellation! I thought it was super interesting that that happened, as I've never seen a Disney spectacular be stopped and told it was specifically canceled due to technical difficulties. That leads to my question: has this ever happened or does this happen every once in a while, I've just never been around to see it?

These things do happen. Not often, but they do. The systems these shows run on are extremely complicated and snafus occur. Audio issues are more likely to pop up with parades than fireworks shows though.

Yeah, I've experienced a few mid show cancellations and a handful of full cancellations and it does kinda suck, especially for those where it may be their only trip to DL. Unfortunately, that's the downside of DL being surrounded by residential areas.

Thanks for the feedback, y'all! It's so weird to have things happen at Disney that you've never encountered before. I did feel for all the non-locals whose only chance to see the show was last night, however. I imagine guest services was a nightmare.

When you think of everything involved with their shows it's amazing it's so rare.

I have also seen the fireworks presentations at Disneyland stop right in the middle of the Show, and then be 'cancelled'.
Happened to me two nights in a row last September, one of those Shows being the special HalloweenTime version which i had never seen.

Later on i learned it was because of the winds changing, which immediately causes to Show to be cut no matter how far along it might be.
It was weird...and slightly surprising, but understandable.

Disneyland is not like Walt Disney World where the Parks are surrounded by a greenbelt of acreage.
In Anaheim, the Parks are surrounded by residential areas.
So there are very strict restrictions as to when those fireworks can be shot off, and under what conditions they can be deployed.
If the wind is blowing in a certain direction, or changes right in the middle of the Show, chances are the plug is pulled.
