Hey everyone, long time no see :). I'm just writing about a story I heard on the news 2 years ago and heard again recently a couple of days ago. 2 years ago, the news said that Disney could possibly plan on building a park on the east end of long island. I heard the same exact story a couple of days ago on a different news channel. I'm not here to spread rumors or anything I'm just curious to see if anybody knows anything? :confused:

Ya know, In a way i'm sad this isn't happening, but in a way i'm glad it isn't happening. I'm sad because, Hey I could have had a local Disney park. I'm happy because I don't want my home to become another tourist infested area. Also if they did build it, Disney would be spreading itself to thin around the world, lowering attendance in WDW and DL. I still say they shouldn't start building parks like crazy, but that might just be me. :)

First reply...don't screw up......

Disney would never build a park in Long Island as the weather is horrible throughout the winter and also because they have just sunk millions of dollars in making (or atleast trying to make) Disneyland a multi-day vacation spot and the money they will probably put into WDW in the future.
But there was a rumor about Disney buying the Coney Island amusement park, so you never know.

hmmmm..not bad at all::sohappy:

I second the Coney Island rumor. I live on LI and recently heard about Disney buying Coney Island. I don't believe it and hope its not true. Disney should work with what they have and perfect it.

If I am correct about this doesn't Disney buy Real Estate as an investment vehicle under the retlaw company. This may be why they have they purchase land in places other than orlando and Aniheim.

Coney Island

I will third the validity of the COney Island rumor. It was a big story in the NYC news a little over a year ago and caused a big stink. I think Fox 5 in NY even ran an online poll for or against the concept. Then it fell through or so I heard and the news dropped it as fast as it picked up on it. I know that there was a lot of political and neighborhood resistance. To anyone who knows the area. Could you imagine the traffic on the belt parkway and on the Verrazano Narrows if this had actually gone ahead.

thanks Lofatrules...

I also don't like the idea of Disney in Coney Island...as it is old and dirty, and for Disney to put money into it would be a waste. I mean not many people would want to go there when New York and all of its attractions are right there and numerous six flags and other parks are within a 100 mile radius of NY. disney should just stick with its existing areas and develop them. It's not like there isn't enough land for them to work on in Florida!

I actually think that with the right influence a Disney park in Coney Island would be successful I just don't think it is in theirs or the cities best interest. I just feel that regional DL's would hurt the product in WDW. And I don't think Disney would be able to put as much effort and detail into a regional park that would draw from a day trip audience instead of vacationers who spend every waking and sleeping moment spending money on the product. As far as attendance in Coney Island though there are plenty of people to go around. Everybody thought the casinos in Conn. would be a bad idea that they wouldn't do well and if they did it would kill the Atlantic City business. Well both are thriving and expanding. There are millions and millions of people withing the NYC metro and extended metro area and it would work I just don't really want to see it
