Disneyland Discount?

I live in California and I have been seeing ads for everyone pays the kids price but that would be for the parks. Disneyland works different than WDW when it comes to rooms.

I go to WDW almost every year and Disneyland every other year as well as my friends are Imagineers for Disneyland and it was told to me that Disneyland and WDW resorts work completely different. I found this out on my last trip.

With WDW the resorts have a rack rate and that is usually the most you will ever pay but there is always some sort of discount (most of the time)

With Disneyland resorts they have a rack rate and as they resort rooms fill up the price of the rack rate goes up. We were booking last minute with little availability and the base rate went up 40% because there were so few of rooms left. There are sometimes discounts with packages or with AAA but unless those are available than the rack rate is the least you will pay instead of like WDW where it is the most you would pay.

Well my advise is to talk to a travel agent to see what packages there are for Disneyland but I have not heard of any 40% like at WDW.

No, tikiman is right. Disneyland room discounts are hard to find. One option at disneyland is buying an annual pass. The AP rates for rooms can be excellent. But they are only offered during slower times of year and even then usually only Sunday - Thursday nights.

Some packages like kids play free are good values. But they didn't offer it this year. Another good package is 4th night free.

And occasionally expedia will offer good rates. Expedia will also offer the 4th night free sometimes.

AAA is your best bet on a discount most of the year. The only problem is that the few rooms they set aside for AAA discount go fast.

We tried the Grand Californian last visit and it was not worth the money to us. The Disneyland hotel has been redone and the rooms are larger and it does not cost as much. It is very easy to walk to the parks now from the Disneyland Hotel. Also there have been great AAA discounts on rooms there and the price of an AAA membership (something like $45) you can get back with one savings on a room. AAA discounts are almost as good as an AP and are more frequent.

I don't think rack rates can "go up." Rack rates are fixed maximum rates made for the year. However, Disneyland can adjust it after the time limit expires.

But if they made a rack rate and changed it in the same year, that would be illegal.

But, I do believe that WDW does give more discounts simply because there are a lot more rooms to fill. I'm sure Disneyland does give some discounts, but probably the best prices are given to California residents (which is basically like what WDW does with Floridians.) Hope that helps! :)

Than my choice of words is wrong. The posted rate on the Disney web site for each room category goes up when available rooms goes down. Rates can even change on the same day. Also Disneyland does not give discounts to all Californians like WDW does for Floridians.

It's illegal to change the rack rate,DL can offer the room for less but they cannot charge more then the maximum amount for the room. I agree rates can change at anytime that is why I book in advance that way they cannot change my rate.

BTW Tiki I am having a fantastic time here at the Poly although the service isn't nearly comparable to the GF I would have no problem staying here again.
