Disneyland Backstage areas

I have noticed on some other Disney fans sites that some people say backstage areas like breakrooms and CM cafeterias are quite nasty and thus keeping morale bad and high turnover.I have never heard this to be an issue and was curious if anyon else has heard of this ???
I know DL is alot older than WDW but I would think they would keep backstage areas for CMS at least decent.

when I was younger we had a few cheer competitions at Disneyland and they would always take us backstage in order to get to the warm-up and staging areas- and I remember being pretty suprised by what it looked like. It was a little dirty and run-down, and I will forever have the image of Mickey smoking with his head off!! haha granted, this was when I was in 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th grade, so I probably had over-fantasized pictures of what it would look like- didn't expect it to look any different than the actual park...... like you said though, this was DL not DW... so maybe it will be different?!

I have eaten at them in two of the parks - MK, AK. I think they were both VERY nice. In fact, I was just telling people the other day how much I enjoyed eating in the Utilidor.... how can you not!

To be fair, the Mouseketeeria doesn't itself smell nasty. It's still in an area of the utilidoors that gets decent air circulation from the outside. I will agree that the Aramark CM's aren't the...friendliest of sorts...at all. It was kinda cool to be under the MK, though. I still like Epcot's backstage better, though, with MGM close behind. AK's is way too spread out, and the breakrooms are a bit too cozy.

I've never been backstage DL, but have been WDW. Although MK's Cafe is bigger than EPCOT, it seemed like EPCOT's staff were MUCH nicer.

I don't know anything about DisneyLands backstage areas but I've never had a problem with Disney Worlds. They aren't as clean and nice as the park itself but the breakrooms are on par with those of any other jobs I've had.
Some of the Aramark CM's can be quite friendly if you're friendly to them. I can see how they would get sick of dealing with tired and sometimes grumpy Disney CM's.

Just hearing "Aramark" makes me cringe and do the instictive 'reach-into-the-wallet-for-money-for-overpriced-food' motion. The CMs there are soooo incredibly nice if you get to know them, though. I think they get overlooked by most CMs on break. As for the break rooms...I don't know where to start. The break rooms over at UO are a lot better, IMO. RotM's is actually themed to the attraction (but with more light). I do have to say, though, that the break room at Jungle Cruise is kinda themed as well. It's basically a supported platform over water (not the jungle river, but where the swan boats used to dock). Think of it as a platform tent over water, because that's almost exactly what it is (complete with flaps to roll and zipper down when it gets cold at night).
There's some pictures of Jungle's on webshots if ya search hard enough. Here's a couple of RotM's:

If you're towards the front of the park, the patio is a pretty good option, or used to be.

I was more recently in the Mousketeeria, saw they had a retail sandwich franchise replacing most of the former salad bar/sandwich line.

Years ago, Disney did its own cast food operations. Was pretty good and maybe a little more varied... but weekends could be grim. Aramark actually brightened things up and raised prices a little and more strictly control portions. Baked fish portions = minnow-sized.

How can you enjoy that?

It's dirty and smells nasty...kinda reminds me of an old run down truck stop.

The Aramark CM's don't add any enjoyment to the whole situation either...they are always in a bad mood, and then when they get your order wrong and you tell them about it they get even more ed off.

Just go visit the grill section and if you get the Aramark CM "Adrian" as he goes by you will see exactly what I mean, he does however rotate between there and the BSB so you never know where you will find him.

Well, yeah! Of course you're going to be treated like trash when you don't know how to talk to people or ask them how their day is going. I loved the guy working the grill section at AK (forget his name), he was a black southern guy who was hilarious.

See, that's why you work quick-service... you have to learn how to enjoy talking to people and take an interest in THEM.

As for the food.... yeah, it was decent. It wasn't amazing... but what do you expect? There were a few meals that were great, but I only had one meal that was "bad" - which was a veggie burger on a Lent Friday! Last time I do that! While I am used to restaurant like the California Grill and Emril's.... I realize that I am at WORK. And thus, I take it with a grain of salt (and lots of pepper).

Start counting your blessings Joey...
