Didn’t you book a flight to Florida? That’s like a 5-hour flight. Julian is like three hours away from L.A., I believe. I’ve also been dying to get there. I intended to stay there for a weekend next month for apple picking and fall colors, but I don’t think it’s going to work out. I want to go for Christmas one year because of the snow. I hope you and your family get to go!

Thanks! If we do it we ll definitely stay out there for a night. Even if it’s Temecula or SD or something.

Yes I did and while I’m not looking forward to the flight, I know the payoff of a 7 day Disney cruise will be there when we get there. I specifically chose a cruise because it sounds like a nice easy vacation with the kids. We were originally leaning towards a Royal Caribbean cruise since they had one leaving from Long Beach but then that Disney + subscriber deal came out basically giving like 40% discounts on the cruise. Then the choice was clear as a 7 day Disney/ Caribbean cruise is bucket list while Rando cruise on the 20 year old Royal ship going to Mexico is not. All for the same price! Also I’ve been on 4 Cruises to Mexico already.

One of my coworkers, who only goes to DL a couple times a year, went last week and said it was the worst he’s ever seen it, as busy as he’s ever seen it, rides breaking down, long lines for food, long Genie lines, he couldn’t believe the prices for everything… then he showed me the pics of his kids having the time of their life and said they’re already planning their next trip for probably Jan or Feb when they hope it’ll be slower.

That’s the (not so) secret, we all hate how far Disney has fallen but despite all the moaning and complaining it’s still fun.

I loathe how expensive Knights (hockey) tickets have become, how expensive the beer is, how expensive the hot dogs are, how expensive the parking is, etc, etc etc but the second someone asks if I want to go to a game I say yes and grab my wallet. Complaining about something doesn’t mean we don’t still enjoy it.
This. The only difference is that we decided to let our APs expire this year and are generally just not planning of returning anytime soon. Part of that is the travel (Hawai'i) part of it is the rising cost nickel & dime experience without a solid wow factor to make it worth it. It's crowded, the maintenance is generally getting left in the rear view mirror, way more trash and the like than ever before left behind by guests, and overall it just isn't as fun as it was. It would be ok paying more if the experience was getting better, but we are not being honest with ourselves on the real state of DL. And Disney knows that.

On the other hand, we had friends that just visited and had a tremendous time. But it's didn't wow them in a way that they'll be back if that makes sense. It was just sort of that once-in-a-lifetime sort of trip.

Maybe it's also our fault that we keep going back and then we're more critical than need be. But maybe it's just sucked enough of that joy out of the experience that for our family, it's on to new and better things.

To be fair… I was surprised how cheap the 4 and 5 day tickets were the last couple times I went earlier this year. I was expecting to pay more.

The top tier 1-day is getting pretty high though!

First of all, congratulations on coming to the end of college. I say you should use whatever money you’ve saved and spend it on a trip to a different state or country. It was personally very liberating to me to see different parts of the country and the world after earning my degrees. I know you’ve traveled before. Don’t give Disneyland your hard-earned money. I haven’t been to the parks in a few years either. I’m going tomorrow, but that’s because I was invited by a dear friend of mine and my ticket has been covered.

You will have completed a wonderful accomplishment and celebrate it somewhere unworthy, in my opinion.
Thank you very much! I wasn't planning on going to Disneyland to celebrate graduating, thankfully. I wasn't actually planning any trips specific to graduating but hopefully I can pull something together and go somewhere to reward myself. I had an amazing time in Italy and would love to go back eventually and bring my girlfriend since she's never been, but that will probably be something I save towards once I start working full time after graduating. Thankfully I already have the whole process lined up so once I graduate I get right into studying for and earning my certifications while working full time.

I hope you had a good time in the parks since your ticket was covered! I feel like I would only go if I was ever able to get a really good deal like I did back in 2018 when getting a massive discount on the hotel price through a friend, I think it ended up costing $30 per night per person so I could justify the costs of everything else, but now I would have to dump so much money I couldn't justify it. I'm sure I'd still have a good time, but I am genuinely curious to see how clunky operations are / how SW:GE looks in person / how Avengers Campus looks worse than my college campus does. I'll find my way back one of these days, especially since my girlfriend is a much more casual Disney Parks fan she doesn't care as much about changes but even she admitted mobile ordering and boarding groups back in the day were awful to deal with. She has wanted to go during Christmas to see the decorations, so I might try and go at the least busy time with the winter decorations up but even then it'll still be packed and expensive.

I know I have asked this before but I am curious what location(s) you would recommend for someone to travel with their partner? Like I said I absolutely loved Italy and Czech and just fell in love with the way big European cities feel.

honestly given the reservation system and mobile ordering for food still seeming somewhat confusing and clunky as I haven't used it yet and my gf's family had a bit of a tough time with it on their trip, as well as poor show all around the park and the growing number of changes that put me off from the park, I don't know how soon my next trip would be.
For what it’s worth… I went this summer to Disneyland for the first time in any Disney park since covid and I was very concerned about going, and that I would be disappointed.

It was great. As good if not better than my previous trips in 2019.

The only major problem was food quality and wait times at many quick service restaurants but Plaza Inn was still as good as ever!

I would still highly recommend a trip to Disneyland.

WDW… I’m not so sure about but will try to be brave and visit soon before harmonious goes away. I want to see it even if I won’t like it! Haha

I wouldn't bother with WDW right now. It was already a bigger mess pre-covid and everything about it sounds horrific right now. I had one day at MK in 2021 and the actual park day was fine-but it was almost ruined by reservation drama with my mother's ticket and the endless wait to get across the lake and walk back to the car, since they had no trams running at the time. This was also pre-Genie.

My DL travel buddy from this summer is just finishing up a trip to WDW with her sister and said that sister is done with WDW until they improve themselves. It will be interesting to see what her feedback from World is when I see her in person in a few days.

Things weren't perfect at DLR this summer. Mobile Order was a pain and I had a terrible situation with one of my dining reservations and trying to get it cancelled. There were definitely some maintenance issues. HOWEVER, I still had a good time and was happy I went. I think it depends a little bit on mindset. There are plenty of valid reasons to criticize Disney right now and plenty of things they could do better, for sure. But more of my time at the parks was still fun than not.

Went to Julian for the first time earlier this year. Town is touristy and cute. A bunch of touristy shops with crap in them. That being said... we had the 'famous' apple pie... and....... yeah, that was some damn good pie. I'm a believer. Extremely tasty and would highly recommend.

Every few days I say to myself I can’t believe I’m flying to Florida for the fourth time and still not going to WDW. I think it’s the right choice but still. Doesn’t help that my sister and brother-in-law are at Disneyland Paris right now with a Disney Park count of 9 ( only missing Hong Kong and the Tokyo parks). They sent me some videos and Disneyland Paris is absolutely beautiful. Especially Fantasyland and that village area outside the parks. Never really thought Disneyland Paris would be my first foreign park as it doesn’t really have any signature or world class attractions (minus Phantom Manor) but it just shot up my list. Plus it’s in Paris so you get to cross that off your list too.

Honestly I'm more excited for my return to Universal Orlando than Walt Disney World. Too expensive for what you get at this point.

Disney Paris (the main park) is gorgeous, the DisneySea of Castle Parks. I don't know that I would go so far as to say there are no world class attractions, but it's true that it doesn't have anything super unique if you're used to the US parks, which dings it a bit for me (and I'd say that their flagships are more overrated than the Asia park flagships. Particularly Phantom Manor, but I digress). Their Big Thunder is amazing though, and if there's any ride from there I think about and wish we had here, it's that. You also have tons of great little walkthroughs that never have any waits.

Oof, Disney Village. I wonder if they've started the refurb if you're seeing nice pictures of it because Disney Village was pretty ugly and garish IMO in 2015. It made CA's Downtown Disney look like Disney Springs. Just wild and not in a good way.

Paris is an amazing city, and definitely more approachable than some of the other cities with Disney parks in them (in particular, I imagine some people simply would not be ready for Shanghai if they hadn't done some international travel beforehand and/or didn't know exactly what they would be getting into). Wonderful attractions and food-I had a cheese plate that I still think about from time to time that was simply divine. That said, service norms are very different over there, including at Disney Paris, in a way that is not really true of the Asian parks. Not something you can't learn about beforehand very easily, and if someone comes back from France and says that French people are rude, it's probably because they didn't do their research about French cultural norms.

I guess I what I meant was signature attraction. What they do have is a beautiful park and better versions of some of the stuff we have here like you said Thunder Mountain. Not sure if Phantom Manor is better but it’s a headliner there and much different than ours.

Maybe I was wrong about the village area. She referred to this as this village area…

Paris, France and the French Countryside are much higher on my list than the other Disney park locations. Some of which aren’t on the list at all - Shanghai. Tokyo/ Japan is climbing up in recent years though.

On another note why doesn’t DLR have something like a Crush’s coaster? Maybe one day they can put something like that where Goofys Sky School is. That show building looks kind of big though.

Ah, signature meaning exclusive. Fair enough, they don't really have that.

What she called The Village is known as Fantasia Gardens. It's basically a quiet area designed to set the tone for the main park outside the gate. It is indeed quite a lovely area.

THIS is the Disney Village. It's, at best, quite dated:

I agree that DLR should have some kind of indoor coaster. Crush's Coaster would be all wrong though. It's fun, but it's VERY low capacity-so low that FP was never offered with it, and if you didn't hit the ride immediately on park opening you'd be waiting at least an hour and a half. They bought it because it was cheap, not necessarily because it was appropriate for the park. DLR would need something with higher capacity-and honestly I would be fine with them just doing something like RNRC, so long as they don't do what they did to WDS' version here.

You definitely need to visit sometime. The individual resort areas are like mini towns all connected into one greater area. Magic kingdom with Polynesian, Grand Floridian, contemporary, Ft Wilderness and Wilderness lodge connected by boat and monorail. Epcot and DHS connecting Yacht and Beach Club, boardwalk, Swan and Dolphin, Caribbean Beach, Riviera, pop century and art of animation by boat and skyliner. The Disney springs area by boat and Animal kingdom with animal kingdom lodge. Plus the great table service and rides like Spaceship Earth, Cosmic Rewind, Tower of terror, Everest, Flight of passage, Seven dwarves mine train classics like Carousel of progress, Peoplemover, Living with the land, Kilimanjaro Safari and shows like hall of Presidents, American adventure, Canada far and wide, impressions de France, finding Nemo, and flights of wonder

Yes, do WDW at some point, but wait until your kids are older and you can really commit to doing WDW (and just WDW) in the way you want to.

For now just enjoy the Cruise.

Definitely looking forward to it! Just need to wait until the timing is right.

You’re welcome!

Go when you can financially justify a visit. Realistically, if you can’t afford to come down for the parks, get a hotel, etc., don’t try and make it happen right now. As you stated, wait for that job to come, save your money, then make it happen. I’m curious to hear your thoughts on AC and SW:GE.

I’ve been to just eight countries so far (not all of them for vacation purposes), but I don’t see why any of them would be a problem for traveling couples. If you want to stick to Europe, I’d wager to guess that any of the super popular destinations (UK, Italy, Germany, France, Spain, Greece, Switzerland, etc.) would be great for couples. I was supposed to go to Croatia in 2018, but I overslept and missed my flight from London (I’m still not over this lol). Maybe you could go there? I could live what was supposed to be a relaxing vacation through you haha.

Yikes. I haven't seen Paris' Downtown Disney section in quite some time. It's a look that didn't age well at all. But I can't think of a 1990's Hip! Entertainment Mall that did age well past about 2003. The Paris version always looked cheap even for the 1990's, compared to WDW's Pleasure Island or Anaheim's Downtown Disney 1.0 circa 2001.

The French might like it just because it's so ugly and cheap though. They seem to enjoy the mental gymnastics to convince themselves that ugly, cheap stuff is actually brilliant. Like the Pompidou Center.

This doesn’t even look like a real picture, it’s like a poorly-rendered video game shot. This looks like @Rich T ‘s kid stole his Xbox controller and thought it’d be fun to drop giant licorice towers on dad’s shopping area in Planet Coaster.
Perhaps it's the Mark Zuckerberg Metaverse version?
