Hey guys, so I have my birthday coming up fairly soon and I think my family may or may not be surprising me with a trip to the Disneyland Resort. I was going on the family desktop computer and a hotel cancellation was up on the screen for July 6th - 13th. I'm not sure if this means the trip was cancelled or we just moved hotels. However, just in case, I would like to know everything there is to know about the Disneyland Resort and what the dos and don'ts are of the Disneyland Resort.

Thanks in advance,

I don't know! Tips, tricks, etc... I want to know the most important things really.

Well, why don't you start by checking out the Attractions in each park so you know what you want to hit most. When you go to DCA, get there before rope drop and plan to hit either RSR first or the FP line for it. There are a lot of great restaurants both sit down and counter service. See what seems appealing then ask away!

Can anyone tell me about tips for shows, what rides to go to first, how early to get to the parks, or anything logistical?

Also, I need some help on something. We are doing the dining package for World of Color for both day that we will be at DCA. We are going to the parks during the week and we want to be as far foward in the preferred viewing section as possible. How early should I get there and also, how early do they start the Fun Wheel Challenge? Definitely, my biggest worry is DCA. The crowds are supposed to be a 9 out of 10 the whole time we are there and I really want to ride RSR, California Screamin', Grizzly River Run and see WOC. Can someone help me?

For shows at DL Park, i recommend 'Mickey & The Magical Map' and the later evening showing of 'Fantasmic'.
If there are two showings of 'Fantasmic' the night you are visiting, go to the second, later showing. It helps cut down some of the crowds around the Rivers of America.

If you are a morning person, arriving at the front gate an hour before opening will put you into the Park ahead of many IF there is no 'Magic Morning' event that day.
I personally don't find it necessary to be there when the Park opens...but since you are visiting during peak Summer season it might be of benefit to you.

As to what Attractions/rides to go to first to avoid long lines, i would choose 'Indiana Jones Adventure'.
Since this is your first visit, i HIGHLY recommend you enter the attraction through the Standby, regular queue line.
The incredible themed queue that takes you from outside into the Temple of the Forbidden Eye is a MUST experience.
DO NOT use 'FastPass' and do not use the 'Single Rider' line for your first ride!! Resist! Use FP or SR later..to ride AGAIN...later in the day.
You WILL want to...trust me!
;)

Once you experience IJA, the choice of what to do next is up to you.
This depends on what your personal preferences are to Attractions/rides.
What are some of the Attractions you are most interested in experiencing while at DLR...?

Attractions that are usually good to 'do' before the masses descend later in the day are 'Peter Pan's Flight', 'Roger Rabbit's Car-Toon Spin', Matterhorn Bobsleds ( unless you are a Single Rider ),'Space Mountain', 'Splash Mountain' ( especially if it is a HOT day..) and 'Big Thunder Mountain Railroad'.

For 'Radiator Springs Racers' over in CarsLand at DCA, some prefer to try to get a FastPass early in the morning when the Park first opens.
I find if you cannot get a FP, wait until later in the evening to ride when the crowds thin out, especially near closing time.
If you are alone, or with a friend, you can also utilize the 'Single Rider' line at RSR at any time during the day. Note that you will not be riding with your friend...you will be split between two ride vehicles. I would not recommend the SR line if you are with more then three people.

For Parade viewing at DL Park, most folks crowd Main Street.
I find a great spot for viewing the parade, and taking photos is in the viewing area located in front of the restrooms next to the 'Alice in Wonderland' dark ride in Fantasyland. Once the parade passes, you can easily jump on the Matterhorn or head over to Fantasyland, Toontown, or Tomorrowland right from that spot.
It also helps keep you away from the crowded chaos of the Hub after the parade passes.

If i know a little more about what you would be most interested in doing and seeing at DL, i am open to sharing more suggestions.

Hope the above adds some insight.

:)

As noted in my previous post, if you cannot get a FastPass to 'Racers' in the morning when DCA opens, try riding later in the evening before Park close or utilize the 'Single Rider' line.

'California Screamin' and 'Grizzly River Run' both have FastPass options, so you should have no real problems getting to ride them during your visit(s).
Ditto with WoC, especially since you invested in the Dining Package. You should be able to get a good viewing of the Show from where you will be.

I would recommend on the day you decide to visit DCA, to get their before the Park opens.
This will give you a slight jump on the crowds for the day, and give you time to collect the FPs you want for the Attractions you wish to experience.

Thanks, that helps a lot! Here's a list of musts. Indiana Jones, BTMRR, Splash, Space, Pirates, HM, all of the fantasyland dark rides, astro Blasters, Star Tours, Autopia, RSR, TOT, Mike and Sully to the Rescue, Maters Junkyard Jamboree, Flying tires, TSMM, screamin' and grizzly river run. I know that's a long list, but those are the things I have to get in.

Unfortunately, my family refuses to go to the second showing of Fantasmic so do you have any tips for the first show or something really convincing that will make them want to go to the second showing? My family is taking this very laid back and I don't think they realize we are going in one of the busiest times of year. They still think that DLR is so tiny that we can just stroll through the parks at a leisurely pace which is not true at all. Anyway, thanks for your help. :)

It's expensive but you might consider the Fantasmic Dessert Package if they still have spots open. Its $60 each and you get a reserved seating area and a box of assorted desserts to enjoy without having to camp out for a good spot long in advance. The down side is they may be sold out since they are available 30 days in advance.

There are some good articles online that explain in detail better than I can but you can google it.

Remember if you go early that is such a big advantage. That and FP should take care of it pretty well. If you want to subscribe to touringplans.com they can help you out with a good plan as well.

We'll be heading that way ourselves in about a month so let us know about your experiences and have a great time!

Oh, and where are you staying?
I'll defensively consider the Fantasmic Dessert Package. We are staying at Marriott Suites Anaheim.

Cool, I know Touring Plans is a little scary thinking about but they work.

We are staying at the Best Western Park Place right across the street and I'm still deciding on our RSR attack. My 15 year old daughter likes to sleep in so I may wake her as I head out the door, get FP and come back for her. I'm hoping she'll be okay with the SR line but we'll see. I know most of us want to ride with our kids the first time together. I'm okay with grabbing a FP and coming back to ride whenever. I know when we rode Harry Potter we did the long line then late at night before close the line was shorter then we got back in line for no wait at all. I'm hoping for similar results!

Also, we are considering making an ADR at Carnation Cafe. Can you tell me about the food?

It's okay, not life changing. Unlikely you would need an ADR for it, even in summer. DLR doesn't require ADRs like WDW - the only restaurant where I'd say you really need one is the Blue Bayou. The counter service options at DLR are VERY strong and most serve excellent food - table service just isn't as big a thing here.
