Disney World's 35th Celebration

I don't think WDW will stay in "Anniversary mode" after HCOE.

Lt's looks at a timeline of their marketing campaigns.

Oct 1991 - Dec 1993 WDW 20th Anniversary "20 Magical Years"

Jan 1994 - Fall 1996 (nothing.....new Tomorrowland and Sunset BLVD open)

Oct 1996 - Spring 1998 WDW 25th Anniversary

Summer 1998- Fall 1999 (nothing....DAK opens, Test Track, RnRC)

October 1999 - September 2001 Millenium Celebration

October 2001 - December 2002 100 years of Magic

October 2003 - April 2005 Magical Gatherings

May 2005 - December 2006 Happiest Celebration on Earth (DL's 50th)

The being said, my guess is that NOTHING will follow HCOE. Epcot's 25th will probably be celebrated about as much as MGM's 15th was last year. DAK's 10th.......probably about the same.

The good news is that the Anniversary marketing campaigns are always followed by a large amount of capital improvements.

I just HAVE to comment on the Disneyland getting the shaft thing. Please do note that I'm not being negative, just wanting to point something out: while WDW is getting 2 new attractions and one tepid show, those folk who visit Disneyland are getting their park BACK!!! After the years of neglect from the Pressler/Harris era, that park is looking better than it has in more than a decade and is returning to what it used to be and always should have been. Plus the California locals got: an entire new park only a few years ago (California Adv qualifies as a park... heh heh), a new downtown Disney, a new hotel, this summer a new and probably the best Space Mountain, on May 5 will get what probably will be the best Disney fireworks show we have ever seen, a very cool new parade, already have a renovated and updated tiki room, an updated haunted mansion, an on May 5 an updated jungle cruise.... need I say more???? I would feel very happy if I were a CA local that someone has turned the boat around and headed it back into the right direction. I am eagerly anticipating a visit to Disneyland in the early fall for the first time since 1996. Matt Quimet and company are responsible for putting the magic back into that park, putting back the proper maintenance and upkeep, and putting the smiles back onto the faces of the entire cast.
Let me get this straight. So by the time WDW's 45th comes around they're gonna start letting the park fall into a huge rut of neglect just so they can hurry up and fix it up again for our 50th?

All sarcasm aside, you're totally right--they're finally getting their park back.

DL was a tiral and error thing. Walt even said so himself. That is why he started the idea for WDW. He said many times that he wanted WDW to be what DL was supposed to be. He had expressed his disaproval of DL many times. He didn't like that is was surounded by the big city lights among other things. When it was all done, DL was Walt's orphen child.

It's kind alike when a copmany makes cars. Every year they come up with something better. They don't keep the old around just because a few hundred people "like it" They don't spend money to keep "up-keep" on the old model. THey move on and make something new and better (aka WDW, DLP, Tokyo, ect.) With each new Disney park, it is a step forward in imporvement. DL just has the bad luck of being the tiral version. How many people stilll use AOL 2.5 ?

You are incorrect. The problem Walt had with DL is that he didn't buy enough land around it and everything popped up right next to it, killing the illusion. Show me where he complains about the DL park itself. You won't find it.

DLP is considered to be a downgrade by a lot of people. Most of the TDL money came from Oriental Land Company. So those are not valid arguments.

They don't spend money on upkeep at old parks? Are you crazy? You think they don't spend money to keep the parks looking more or less pristine everyday? And everyone I've heard has said DL is looking as good as it did the day it opened right now. You must be crazy.

Hey thrawn, believe it or not I really like you! anyway I agree with that last post of yours except for the DLP part, it's sort of the best MK out there it's the location that stinks. Oh ad you can add how hideously reduced HKDL is to your argument

I expect that for WDW 35th they'll make a big deal about it, I remember Disneyland's 45th and they had exclusive merchandise and parades, etc. I would like that's an anniversary you'd sort of blow over so if they did it for that why not the 35th? But expect Epcot's 25th and AK's 10 to be huge media events!

Study Walt's histoyry and dreams and you will find alot of him saying he likked the WDW idea better then DL.

And like I said (and you repeated) He didn't like the way the city grew around the park.
