Disney World Website Campaigne!

I'm officially sick of the disneyworld.com website.

It's so full of outdated information, misinformation, and blatantly wrong stuff that I've decided we need to take a stand!

There is apparently no fact-checker for the website. Much of the information is wrong and several times things which no longer exist are referenced.

So, I think we should use this handy thread to compile and monitor a list of inaccuracies (plus, we can discuss wether something is really WRONG or if we're not remembering properly).

After we've verified that the information really is wrong, outdated, etc.. we can send lots of emaisl or letters to Disney telling them to fix it!!

I've tried dealing with disneyworld.com about their information being incorrect before and gotten either no response, no fix, or "We're forwarding this to..." with no response, so maybe a full scale rush is what will force them to do right by the consumer?

You just can't have a website that people rely on for information about a major tourist destination be so riddled with incorrect information. You're gonna screw up people's vacations :(

WALT WOULD NOT STAND FOR THIS!! You know if he had access to the internet, he'd keep it pretty updated. I've never been to their offical website though. I've never been impressed with official websites. You want results? You gotta go to the fan made ones. Not just for Disney, but just about everything. Don't even get me STARTED on mastersoftheuniverse.com

I said "IF" he had the internet. Perhaps "know" was a strong word. More like I figure. Because Walt was alwasy olne for using the state of the art in technology and informing people on TV about what he was planning to do, I figured if he had the internet, he wouldn't let it get out dated with mis-information.

Epcot's Main Page:

http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/parks/parkLanding?id=EPLandingPage

In the flash animation window, the final triangle which is supposed to link to Turtle talk links to a defunct page for the Flower and Garden Festival:

http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wd...ing?id=FlowerGardenSubListingSpecialEventPage

Attractions:

Mission: SPACE

http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/parks/attractionDetail?id=MissionSPACEAttractionPage

Tips and Fun Facts:

"The outcome of your mission varies depending on how each astronaut performs during the flight."

How? If anyone can explain to me how this ride is actually interactive and the outcome changes, I'll take this back, but it's currently untrue.

Soarin'

http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/parks/attractionDetail?id=SoarinAttractionPage

The quicktime video opens with an image of the DCA fascade for the attraction. This is misleading and will confuse guests looking for this structure in Epcot.

Spaceship Earth

http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/parks/attractionDetail?id=SpaceshipEarthAttractionPage

Several images in the flash montage do NOT exist in the current attraction. (Fixed, old error)

"Step into the world-renowned 180-foot-tall geosphere to explore the stirring story of human communication. Be transported to the further reaches of the solar system in a Time Machine vehicle that takes you through magnificent moments of the past, present and future — from the dawn of recorded time to the 21st century's New Global Neighborhood."

The New Global Neighborhood no longer exists.

Spaceship Earth Pavilion

http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/parks/attractionDetail?id=SpaceshipEarthPavilionAttractionPage

"Step into the world-renowned geosphere to witness milestones in communications vital to man's survival. Ride Spaceship Earth to the further reaches of the solar system, then visit a post-show to see your photo on the digital branches of the Network Tree."

The Network Tree no longer exists, the post-show has been eliminated entirely.

The Living Seas Pavilion

http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/parks/attractionDetail?id=TheLivingSeasPavilionAttractionPage

Tips and Facts:

"Don't miss the amazing pre-show display which includes Sir Edmund Halley's first diving bell (1697) and a 16th-century diving helmet designed by Flavius Vegetus Renatus."

The pre-show area no longer exists.

The Land Pavilion

http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/parks/attractionDetail?id=TheLandPavilionAttractionPage

The flash animation depicts the pavilion as it existed prior to the 1996 rennovation and the 2005 rennovation. Not only are the images outdated, but show 3-different versions of the pavilion.

Ellen's Energy Adventure

http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/parks/attractionDetail?id=EllensEnergyAdventureAttractionPage

Additional Information:

"Flash photography and videotaping are allowed."

The pre-show film of the attraction specificly states that flash photography is not allowed.

Epcot Dining

http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/dining/diningListing?id=EPDiningListingPage

"Sunshine Season Food Fair"

"Land" in the heart of this food court for the wealth of choices that await you at the crossroads of The Land Pavilion. Choose from pasta to baked potatoes to barbeque to soups and salads."

This area has been rennovated and renamed Sunshine Seasons with a menu change as well.

The Garden Grill Restaurant

http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/dining/diningDetail?id=GardenGrillDiningPage

The flash animation depicts the restaurant exterior as is appeared prior to rennovation.

I agree with you that they should try harder to keep it up to date, especially with info concerning tickets and procedures. I went to a few of your links to check it out myself, but didn't find anything wrong with the flash show for Spaceship Earth. All the images in the slideshow are from the current ride and were there as of mid-December. While there is not "Global Neighborhood" at the end anymore, I guess the final scenes could be viewed as showing a "global neighborhood."

Thanks - you're right.

That was my old stand=by complaint about SSE's page. It used to show the Communication Network map instead of the Classroom scene.

I'll edit the post to note it's fixed.

Weird eh?

I went to Epcot's page and it was the M:S, Soarin, Test Track, Turtle talk flash from before the Holidays but with a broken link. Now it's back to Holidays.

Issues

I hate how hard it is to get Basic information, such as show times, opening hours, general park prices.

I would like for them to have a online version of the hand out Times and Information guide. The one that shows all the Parks opening times, Parade times, and show times on a calendar.

To find this information curently takes a while, changing from page to page. This kind of information would help alot of people with planning there holidays, I personally like to look at show times in advance to plan which parks to hit when (but always have to go to Wal-Mart when we arrive to get one of the printed versions).

It would also be nice to see an interactive park map, one where you can have a look around the parks, and see the rides, not a silly small hard to find in teh first place map they currently show.

Also i think they should make a bigger deal of E-Ticket ride on the website, giving each their own portal. i.e. A Haunter Mansion sub-site with a backstory, and maybe a mini game, cool things to look out for. Make the internet site park of the park experiance.

They could do soo much online, but its just a place for them to sell tickets. Ive never seen the Food Festival, or Flower and Garden Festival advertised on there, MNSSHP could have a big front page when halloween is close, drunning up more intrest.

I really like it when they do the event online that tie up with the park (i.e. the Pal Mickey Pin for completing the game etc, just wish there was more of it).

Sorry its a bit of a rant, but i really agree that Disney have not tapped into the internet as much as they could, why isn't VMK advertised from the WDW mainpage?

I have a question... if you find the site so objectionable why do you continue to visit it?

And have you sent them an email expressing your concerns?

It's not just their outdated or incorrect info, its sometimes their lack of info. When I went over the summer, we were staying at Pop Century. All the official website offeres you is one paragraph and a picture. Allearsnet, LaughingPlace, This site, and many others provided much much more. I consider Allearsnet more of the official site then theirs.
My other complaint about the site is the search engine. It just plain sucks. You never come out with an answer, I'd just as soon use google. For example, on the Disney Channel, they occasionaly show music video's, and I know they used to have a place online where you can view them. yesterday, I wanted to find a song that was used in one of the videos (It's a remake of an older song, and it's sung by four or five teenage boys in the video). I went searching, and after about an hour, came up with nothing. (And still have nothing, if anyone knows what I'm talking about, please tell me the song name!)
If I can find any other tangible errors on the website, I'll let you know.

I believe you have to download Adobe to zoom in really close on the map and scroll wherever you want cuz I can do that on my computer.

To comment on DisneyWales's suggestions:
I think you should also be able to make dining reservations and tour reservations online.

And I found an error. (Well maybe) They're still listing the Living Seas as closed for rennovation (at least under the "My Disney Vacation" part of the website, which I'm sure I can't link you too because it's under my password.
