Disney world strict on 2 year old about mask?

I am curious on how strict Disney world is being on the mask requirement for a 2 year old. We are going next month and I have work with my toddler on wearing the mask but he will only tolerate it for a few minutes at a time. In my honest opinion, I think it is a bit unrealistic to expect a 2 year old to wear a mask in the Florida heat, my toddler barely lets me put clothes on him 😂 I am afraid that by the time we get him to the entrance he will be fed up with the mask and pull it off or throw a fit. Will they turn us away? Or do they allow some leniency when it comes to a barely 2 year old? I have spent a lot of money for our Disney vacation and I am stressing about being turned away because of their ridiculous policy. If I have to I will probably tell them he is just under 2.

We were there May 1-8, and most of the young children had a mask somewhere in the vicinity of their face, mostly pulled under their chin. I saw many children who looked to be around two - maybe older - in strollers not wearing masks. My best guess is that if you child is barely two, no one will say anything. Of course, by the time you go it's highly unlikely anyone will be wearing masks at WDW.

When I was there in April it really depended on the CM from what I saw. I saw tons of kids in that age range with them pulled below their nose where nothing was said and I did see a few CM"s use the little power they had been granted to insist the toddler was wearing their mask correctly. I also saw one CM questioning a family about their child's age . She was very rude , young and I am pretty sure the kind of person who double mask all alone in her car.

Just my opinion but you booked the trip knowing the rules so you should not be shocked when you have to follow them.

With that said outside in common areas no one has to wear a mask so if all else fails stay outside.
And at this point with Universal and Seaworld no longer requiring masks at any time I get the feeling Disney will be announcing the same before your trip so I wouldn't be too terribly concerned about forcing your child to keep a mask on at the parks.

HOWEVER I'm not sure how you're arriving but if its by plane your child will have to wear it in the airport and on the plane and that is STRICT.

We go with a 2 year old next week and we can let you know how it is. I do wonder if they will change the rules either before we go, or the very least before you go.

Airport may be your biggest challenge. I hear different reports on that with 2 year olds. There was an incident on a Spirit flight where a flight attendant attempted to kick off a family for the child not wearing their mask properly. Other passengers stuck up for the family, and in the end the family was allowed to fly (and reports were the flight attendant was escorted off property). I know another family that flies a lot all over the country with their 2 year old who is really bad at wearing masks, and they said that they have spoken to a lot of flight attendants about it and pretty consistently they have been very lenient with 2 year olds. Just like at WDW, it just depends on the person you deal with. There will always be some people that will be strict on the rules to the letter, while others will not. I think you are seeing more and more people being less strict...but there is still always that one person.

Just keep trying to teach them. I have been doing it with my son everyday. I am not one of those people that drives with a mask on...if my son is in the car. That's one of the times we practice. I can't tell him to wear his mask if I don't. He gets better everyday.

You are right, getting a 2 year old to wear a mask is harder than most people realize. Relax some, I believe you will be ok. Don't listen to those that tell you "you knew the rules..." You all will have an awesome vacation, and will have something to talk about later with regards to the anxiety of the mask.

THis is true, but Disney is a private company so they still have to change their policy. They will...just a question of when. All sorts of predictions out there as of when.

A follow up to what I was saying about airports too, another user commented that there seems to be a significant change at MCO with how strict (or not so strict) they are. They remarked that all covid announcements have been removed at the airport, most sanitizers removed, and half of the people were maskless until they got to security. Obviously this is just one person's experience, but I wouldn't be surprised if you are seeing this more and more everywhere (look the other way in some regards), but it doesn't mean there isn't still people that will enforce the rules as they currently are.

If Disney allows people to go mask-free inside, it will be for vaccinated guests only, like what Universal did. They would not be getting rid of the mask rule altogether. Since your child is so young, it will be obvious that he is not vaccinated, unlike with adults. I wonder if CM's would be instructed to remind parents of young kids that they have to wear them inside. I also wonder how strict Universal is in making young children wear masks indoors.

They can follow their own set of rules really.
With Orange County dropping masks for EVERYONE/EVERYWHERE as of tomorrow I'm guessing that Disney will indeed lift for everyone/everywhere.
Just like they lifted for everyone outside regardless of vaccination.

But they cant know if you are vaccinated and they cant really ask ( wont get the truth from a lot of people anyway )the mayor sounded like he was dropping it for EVERYONE

I am pretty sure this will not be the case. A few trusted people on this site have said that one of the reasons disney has not gone ahead with the removal of mask mandate when Sea World and Universal did was they were not going to do the "vaccinated" guest policy of allowing them to unmask. Plus with the Orange County policy changing, and with the CDC about to change their recommendations for kids, a few insiders have remarked that Disney's time table for removing all mask requirements have accelerated (most recently due to the Orange County update).

On our May trip over a two week period we saw CM's were mostly jumping on the adults who were not wearing their masks properly. Occasionally they did call out to parents of children who had allowed masks to slip down to put them on as required. Most parents I saw would say OK and walk further on past the CM and not do a thing. And most adults would do the same when they were scolded for not complying as well. not once did I see a CM follow through and ensure a guest replaced their mask to a properly worn position. I'd say a large percentage of people had their masks situated below their noses. If mask wearing continues and the intense heat and humidity moves in, guests will be even less likely to comply.

No, I get that, but for kids who are obviously under 12, I wonder how Universal is handling it as their indoor mask rule currently comes with the vaccination stipulation.

No, Universal is using the honor system. They are not calling anybody out on it.
