We went in feb for 7 days on spirit air, from LAX to Ft Lauderdale cost us $150 for 2 ROUND TRIP. Paid $225 for a rental car for the week. It's nice to have a few hours to drive through FL before/after being immersed at WDW. Stayed at Pop Century, I think in all we spent $1900 for flight, car, tix, room, and another $350 on food and PI. I would definitely reccomend having a car if at all possible, there's lots to do in Orlando and going to Publix was the biggest $ saver for snacks and drinks.
Or you could do what we're doing this Dec, taking my old roommate from DL who gets us in free and 50% off the room, all we're waiting for is the next Spirit Air deal There's $800 in savings right off the top
And, depending on where you stay offsite, even Value WDW resorts are much more expensive! We are staying for 10 nights in January, starting with the Disney higher-priced MLK weekend. The grand total for our offsite room is $500, including all resort fees and taxes AND the parking fees we will pay for 7 days in the Disney park parking lots. The cheapest price we can get for a Value resort on Disney property is close to twice that amount.
We find rooms on Hotwire- we research the offered hotels on betterbidding.com and have been happy with almost every place we've stayed.
