We went in feb for 7 days on spirit air, from LAX to Ft Lauderdale cost us $150 for 2 ROUND TRIP. Paid $225 for a rental car for the week. It's nice to have a few hours to drive through FL before/after being immersed at WDW. Stayed at Pop Century, I think in all we spent $1900 for flight, car, tix, room, and another $350 on food and PI. I would definitely reccomend having a car if at all possible, there's lots to do in Orlando and going to Publix was the biggest $ saver for snacks and drinks.
Or you could do what we're doing this Dec, taking my old roommate from DL who gets us in free and 50% off the room, all we're waiting for is the next Spirit Air deal :D There's $800 in savings right off the top

If you stay in a Value - true. If you stay anywhere else - false.
And, depending on where you stay offsite, even Value WDW resorts are much more expensive! We are staying for 10 nights in January, starting with the Disney higher-priced MLK weekend. The grand total for our offsite room is $500, including all resort fees and taxes AND the parking fees we will pay for 7 days in the Disney park parking lots. The cheapest price we can get for a Value resort on Disney property is close to twice that amount.

We find rooms on Hotwire- we research the offered hotels on betterbidding.com and have been happy with almost every place we've stayed.
