I have heard different things about this, but wasn't Walt seriously considering different locations for Disney World, the one I have heard most was New Orleans. And not too long ago on a local radio station they mentioned how Walt was going to build it here in New Orleans but the politics was bad so he didn't. If anyone ahs any information please share.

I've actually heard that St. Louis was almost a definate choice. Bush was actually going to help sponsor it, but when they found out Walt didn't want Beer in his park, they pulled out.

haha Yes I'm very happy with the Hornets, but I would have been a lot more happier if Disney World was here, although it probably would have sunken into the ground by now.

Busch was goping to help sponcer a themepark with disney, funny. Now they are in competition with disney, ever since before that they were in tampa since 1959 i think, Once disney came they added more rides and eventually a rollercoaster.

now they have 4 coasters, and a variaty of different attractions, including rhinorally and some nice shows.

Fidel Castro has less power than Disney!

There were three primary reasons why Walt choose Florida for Disney World. He wanted a large amount of land at a cheap price. Florida citrus groves fit the bill. He always regretted the Disneyland project because he couldn't expand. He also wanted a park on the east coast. More people then (and now) live east of the Mississippi. Last but not least, the state of Florida gave him his own government. WDW runs the whole show and can build a nuclear power plant if they wish! The Reedy Creek Improvement District is bought and paid for by Disney. A pure dictatorship acting as if it is a republic. The corporate and government power at WDW is absolute.

Actually, Disney World was built on Florida swampland, which was very cheap to buy. It was not built on orange groves.

Disney and Busch do work together at times.

Castmembers have been able to get discount tickets through Donald Deals everyonce in a while. And Busch does provide some of the beer sold on property

Walt was looking for areas east of the Mississippi that met several criteria, including a warm climate, and vast amounts of undeveloped land. The story about St. Louis being considered is true; a group of developers there had a good shot until beer magnate Adolph Busch demanded that the park sell beer, and that was that. Walt looked at the entire state of Florida before settling in Central Florida. The highway system that was being built at the time had a lot to do with it.

Read "Inside Disney" by Eve Zibart for more about how this all came to be... it's a great book!
