As a Fla resident AP’er, how much -less the monthly charge - should i be dropping in the parks per visit to be “of use” to WDW. Epcot got festival booth as well as QSR food from me last week + overpriced marguerita + ballcap from China (they have some cool Shanghai Disney swag currently). Probably coffee from starbucks. Am i pulling my weight?
Y’all and Chapek would say of course not. But i live within my means and still manage to get my Disney fix a 6-7x/yr.

That's awesome for you...We're not going on vacation to clean a room, clean our plates or make sammies...we do that at home...we go to Disney so we DON'T have to do that...with all going on, but hey, I'm not faulting you AT ALL...we just want different experiences. It's all good!
Yes I get That. I was just sharing how my budget trips are. (-:

The thread is attendance down 80 percent, my point is there are folks who want in but Disney is preventing them.
The only people "prevented" from getting in is AP holders. They could get in if they have a resort stay or buy day tickets. Even if they did let all AP holders in whenever they wanted, while it would bring attendance up, the average guest spending won't go up much.

WDW should have an AP happy hour to welcome them. Get them tipsy and they may just spend later more than they wanted.

There are a lot of APs that spend. And there are a lot that pack sandwiches. It's a balance. Disney is looking for $ after gate admission right now. At least that's what I believe-considering there is limited attendance. I'm usually an "on-property" type guest. But due to the restrictions (both COVID and NBA related) - I'm at the Gaylord week after next (and plan on spending some Disney cash at ICON). I'll report back. It's uncharted territory for both us and them.

You kinda just answered in a good case study why they don’t throw the place open for APs

The concept is “per guest spending”...and they track it like a hawk. If your group isn’t big in that category...the Bobs have little use for you.

So there is a "rating" for APs? I've long thought so. The years I've spent more I got more surveys. The years I tilted toward Uni, I got less. I know there is a method. But until MB spending is mandated - They can't really gauge cash or GC (but then again - I use my AP for the discount - so it probably is tracked - at least a part of it)

So, I'll defer to you on this. Let's say I buy a Gift Card at a retailer. Sure, Disney knows which retailer sold the card and in what amount. But do they know to whom it was sold? And if they do, how would they match that to an AP? Curious.

I’ll Disclaim this: my information is dated...so things may have shifted...slightly.

Through the phase 2-3-pre 4 development period in Orlando...the two very important numbers where length of stay...and per guest spending.

How long can you keep them there and how much can you “bank” on average prior to them spending it.

The Iger era - in my novice opinion - is that on steroids...

All the things started prior have been amplified to guarantee those two numbers. In some very obvious ways.

Thanks for that. How though did they calculate AP spend for locals who wouldn't have reason to stay OP? And further, may have used alternate payment types?

Was it "time in" equated to track-able spend? If so, how did (do) they calculate spend? Was there a formula based on AP discounts used? I'm just curious.

I know - that you know your stuff. Not questioning that at all. Just interested in the numbers and calculation.

Honestly...that was a fringe demo not worth a lot of thought. Wasn’t the focus of the marketing or pricing...and I’m talking 20 years ago.

They group was viewed much like Florida residents...a small chunk who’s main value was slower seasons and as a backstop/safety valve in bad economic times.

Just curious, since this thread is about how attendance is down at the parks - but it looked like things were relatively busy across the board today?

Like, walk on no wait for every ride..
Even off season slow, was.. um.. busier than it was today.

I dare say, it almost wasn't enjoyable, because you expected air raid sirens to go off at any minute...
Like a hurricane was going to hit in 10 minutes and everyone already left slow.

Like, I'm shocked they are even open slow because there was more staff than there was guests on some rides.

Sorta like you heard a "Womp..womp.... "sad trombone" noise, when you walked off the rides, cause
all the fun interactive stuff after them was all closed and roped off.

But hey, the kids still enjoyed seeing Fig-A-Mint fart in there face.
Highlight of there day.

The caps on attendance prevent anything remotely classified as “relatively busy”...

That’s kinda the crux of this whole discussion.

The spacing and restrictions is creating false senses of “crowds” and times...other times are eerie ghost parks...from hour to hour.

Just think of the lack of indoor dining traffic? In a place like Epcot that’s a huge blow to the business.
