Disney World After Christmas (26th-30th)

I was looking for some feedback about Disney World in between Christmas and New Years. I'm from Chicago and visit Disney somewhat frequently, but never around the holidays. Now that I have family who has moved to Florida, it looks like this is my year. I have always wanted to be at Disney on Christmas Day, but we will be with family that day. So, it will have to be the days between Christmas and New Year's, like around the 26th-30th. Is it as chaotic as people say? Also, will I be missing out on any Christmas decorations or shows that stop after Christmas Day? I still hoping to get the "Christmas experience," so I'm wondering how much things change the day after, you know? Any feedback anyone can give would be really appreciated!

One thing to add to everybody's "crazy" talk is that the MK gate will close to new guests by mid morning and will be hit or miss till 5-7. So if you make any ADR's or FP's for late morning-early evening make sure you get there early to make sure you can get in.

The good thing is that if you are staying on property you're okay up until the last phase of closings: http://www.wdwmagic.com/park-closing-phases.htm . Definitely something to plan for though!

If your main goal is to take in the atmosphere, I'm going to strongly urge you to spend time resort hopping. Every resort on property is decked out in different ways and it's all very beautiful. The resorts will be a lot less crowded and you can even plan ADRs at the resorts you want to visit. A lot of the resorts also offer free holiday activities and tours that are also great!

Huge tip: allow at least an extra 45 min-hour travel time than you normally would at DW during this time!

We are at WDW 18th to 27th. We are on property, have done WDW Christmas multiple times. This year Christmas Day in Epcot. We have fps and adrs made and will be at parks a minimum of one hour prior to scheduled opening. (not catching transportation to parks but actually standing in line at the gates waiting to get in). We always try to hit the big favorites and save the shows, shopping and big loaders for mid day...no going back to the resort, we don't have little ones and we use touringplans to help keep everyone focused.

One job I would not want is trying to determine who gets in and who does NOT get in. I don't think there is any amount of Pixie dust that can help in this situation. We have avoided all of the closure days or least not hit the part until 6 or 7 so we have never had to deal with it. Thank Goodness!!
