Never heard of corporate espionage? It's a fact that it happens. Either legally (just walk in the store) or illegally (spying).

The competition (US and Busch, etc) probably already does that by walking in like everybody else but they could also check out WEB cams just as easily and without spending a dime.

What do you think would happen if you decided to walk around WalMart with a video camera? The suits would be on you faster than stink on ________.

Don't get me wrong, I surely like to see a live feed from WDW but call it unfriendly or lousy or cheap, it's their show and they can do as they see fit.

Geez...I'm sorry ,but I've got to LOL bigtime!!..
Espionage involves spies skulking around in areas they are not supposed to be in..stealing secrets and microfilm!!.
At WDW you can walk about free as a bird.
If the competition looks at something ,likes it and wants to copy it...let them go ahead and get charged for copywrite infringement or something.
But ESPIONAGE !!!....
I'm getting visions of the KGB and CIA attempting a covert operation to steal the secrets of The Pirates of The Caribbean to be used in Moscow or Washington.
PLEASE believe me the cameras have nothing to with that ridiculous notion.

I'm going to jump into the fray. I have worked at a Fortune 500 company for many years prior to leaving 2 years ago, and also did a lot of work with statistical controls/analysis.

Corporate espionage is a real problem for all companies in the US, from both other US companies and abroad. Now for WDW, the competition comes from other theme parks, and they could easily use webcam shots to determine if a special event they were holding was making a dent in WDW attendance. One of the best ways to perform statistical analysis is to use regular, repeated data on a stabdard interval, such as a webcam shot of the same place in the park at the same time of day. Would this be of value, yes. Even more so, because if you have data for several years, you can determin if the trend is increasing/decreasing/staying the same. The competition could then extrapolate what their most successful programs were to "steal" visitors from their rivals. Would Disney do the same? Absolutely.

My guess is that the "New" webcams will allow for Disney to review them prior to broadcast, and monitor what the content would be.

As for webcam photo quality, there are a lot of simple programs that "enhance" images, so what may appear to us to be an out of focus blob of human mass can be cleared up into a countable number of individuals.

Again, let me reiterate that corporate espionage is another way of saying that you will get a leg up on the competition. It is something that is always on the minds of large corporation, especially those who are the leaders.

Shure the web cams could be an easy way of getting crowd data, but if I remember correctly the quality especially at night would make this difficult. It would just be easier and more accrurate to have someone sitting in stragic locations at the parks making little ticks on paper to record the data they were looking for. Infact I think I was reading a thread somewhere where last year where guests were surveyed and thought they might not be Disney surveyers asking the questions since they were asking in areas like the parking lots and hotels where there is less chance of them getting chaught by disney.

Figment was still there, just not as much.

But it didn't work in the case of WOM or Horizons.

Or Mr. Toad or Carousel of Progress.

Trust me, Disney removes things for a reason... usually complaining to Disney about removed things (rides, etc.) does absolutely nothing. I have yet to see where somebody has successfully gotten Disney to do something like that... and I think the only reason Journey Into Your Imagination was changed was because nobody went on it and Disney probably though they could get more money if it was more popular. Money makes the world & Disney go round.
