Disney was Stupid

I'm not sure I agree with you about Potter, but even if it were true, the franchise Disney went after instead is Avatar, the appeal of which is already buried 6 feet deep. Sooo...
Well now they have an answer for both coasts:
Star Wars and Marvel

If Iger's plan of supersaturation goes into full swing I predict Star Wars will be the next "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire". Seriously though, I think people may be slightly over estimating Star Wars popularity. I think the 2nd trilogy may have actually hurt the brand. Although I think Clone Wars was good for the Brand.

Do they actually intend to expand their use of the Star Wars brand in the parks though? If they really wanted to, they didn't have to wait until now to do it.

And Disneyland's Marvel project is apparently on hold.

Just because it is apparently on hold doesn't mean it won't happen.
Yes but most likely not for years especially with Star Wars. There are NO! plans currently to bring Star Wars to the domestic parks. None. Zip. Nada. So to say they have an "answer" when they don't have the plans to even use the IP, I'd say there isn't much to say. And again, that gives Universal years and years to establish Potter as a "must go to destination" in Orlando.

This thread was not made to say that Disney might someday hypothetically beat Potter somehow (and that's presuming that Unversal doesn't get another IP to kick Disney's butt with) someday some way. I wanted to point out what Universal is doing now.

Also you failed to address what JT pointe out... If Disney wanted to use the Star Wars IP, they didnt have to wait til now. So...

I agree with what you said, but if jk is done with the series, I see the appeal if hp dying in about 5-7 years IMO. I still am dying to see it, as it looks great. But I still am glad they went after other franchises instead.

Also, I bet you Star Wars will make even more than potter when they get it in DHS. And marvel in dl will outgross hp in Hollywood.

HP is one of those things that might die away or might not. It definitely appeals to kids and my DD who is now 8 is now boldly getting into Potter with all her friends. This is their first set of books that they have read so aggressively like this. You know, SWs didn't go away (I guess Bill Murray was right "Star Wars... we'll always have Star Wars!"). GL took a break from SWs for nearly two decades and then came back to it. Who knows what will happen with HP. JK could easily change her mind and write a prequel series to HP with Harry's parents when they were kids at Hogwarts. You know she probably thinks about their back-stories all the time and probably has WBs and Scholastic asking her crazy about it all the time.

The thing I love most about HP is the KUKA arm. Not only was Universal smart to get HP but they also got the exclusive licensing deal with KUKA to get their ride technology. Disney lost on both the story and the ride mechanism which IMHO are the two equal ingredients that have to be there for a ride to be truly enjoyable and successful. Disney has scooped up SWs, which I am excited about, but what kind of ride technologies are they going to use if they make a SWs land, etc.? I was so excited to go on Monster's Inc. and Little Mermaid in DCA and then I found out that they were collectively the worst dark rides ever produced by Disney. It was such a letdown. It's like there was no effort at all for creating a technologically exciting ride.

Universal had a spell of stupid as well. The Merlinwood overlay concept was downright awful.

I don't know if Walt Disney Imagineering, even if agreeing to deal with Rowling, would have been as willing to let Warner Bros. step in and direct so much.

I had no idea Universal had exclusives on the KUKA arm. What are the details? How long do they have it?

The very last scene in the Potter Saga was Harry and Ginny sending there youngest, a nervous and shy Albus Severus Potter, off to Hogwarts. With a name like that you know this kid is going to have a story to be told.

Ok.. So more universal thoughts.

Was very impressed with the rest of universal even though the Wizarding World was my favorite. We went there first and then made our way around in a circle.

I had forgotten how awesome the Jurassic Park ride is. It is truly excellent. The dinosaurs compare pretty favorably to anything on Dinosaur and that T-Rex at the end is pretty darn fantastic. If anyone is not going on it because they are afraid of getting wet, bring a poncho because you are missing out! My mom and I went on it twice partially because the first time we went on she put her poncho actually up over her head! And I got my head quite wet and more (no poncho for me)... There was retribution to be had ;) Though it was a pretty funny pic. The cast members were cracking up when they saw it.

Also went on Rip Saw Falls. Now I think this is a pretty great water ride. It does that part of the job well. However, I do think it could also use a new coat of paint and maybe they could have the AAs move a bit more. But even with those criticisms, it's a great great ride. I went on that twice (mom went once) and we were soaked.

Spider man I already spoke about. Screens look great in HD. It's a great story and I'd say a bit more mild than FJ if someone is looking for a little bit less of some jerking.

Went on most of the other rides. Will say that Seuss land is very very cute. My mom and I actually really liked the short silly and sweet train ride. The whole area looks great though. Can tell where new paint has been done recently. I saw so many happy little kids.

None of the food was anything too much to write home about besides the Three Broomsticks. Typical park faire you'd find at universal Disney sea world ect.

Edit: all the cast members I encountered were super polite and seemed pretty happy to be there. One very kindly assisted me with my seat on Hulk as I was having a bit of difficulty. And several on FJ recognized me as I went thru 3 times via single rider (always go single rider even when you have more than two in a party in my family... We don't like waits ;) ). Also props to who her cast member (Taylor I believe) was doing Poseidon. Can't be easy to muster that much enthusiasm for multiple shows a day. He made it fun.

Did you hit Cat in the Hat? That is Universal's best family dark ride other than E.T. of course. But for the most part it sounds like you hit the MAJORS in IOA. Also the Camp Jurassic trails are really impressive in a Tom Sawyer Island kind of way. Are you going to be in the parks tomorrow? If so, you HAVE to see the Mardi Gras Parade. It is SOOOO much fun.

Yeppers. Think the only rides we skipped were Dr Doom's Fearful (let's face this Tower of Terror is loads better), Storm Force Acceleration (don't care), and One Fish Two Fish (eh..you've been on one spinner you've been on them all) and Popeye (*sad face* being refurbed but remember loving it)

We did not do the camp Jurassic trails (fatigue from yesterday set in early.. 22 attractions in two different parks, DHS and MK, kind of did me in lol. Will detail that in the Disney trip report thread).

I will be at a universal tomorrow however and am very much looking forward to it

I will be hitting Universal later in the day for Universal Cinematic Spectacular at 7:00pm and The Mardi Gras Parade 7:45pm. There is also a free concert tomorrow night by Lifehouse. My daughters say they are pretty good, but I don't know if I will stay for that. We will be catching a lot of the other Mardi Gras concerts though. But the food offerings are AMAZING! Jambalaya, Creole Gumbo and of course Beignets!

Interesting. Why so? Suessland was the last stuff we did before attempting to buy out Honeydukes for gifts for my dad and brothers. (Or at least it felt that way)
I am curious too. I go to IOA WAY too much, but am embarrassed to admit that I have never ridden One Fish, Two Fish. I know it's pretty, but what makes it "special"? My favorite spinner is Astro Orbitor.
