Disney Visit On Your Own

Hi Everyone:
I visited Disney this past May with a friend, but did not get to see many of the things I have always wanted to do as an adult trip only. I have always wanted to do the tour at the Magic Kingdom, but when she found out it was a lot of walking she would not do it. So now, I'm thinking about going down by myself in February for 5 days. Has anyone in this group gone to Disney by themselves? If you did, what was the experience like? I usually go with my sister-in-law and nephew but that trip is not scheduled until November 2006! I cannot wait that long :)

You will find a lot of us enjoy solo visits. Being able to do what you want, when you want at your own pace.

Give the search feature a spin, it should turn up quite a few threads

I have taken 2 trips by myself and it is quite fun, however you do miss having someone to share the experience with. But you get to ride the rides you wanna ride, go to parks on your schedule when you want, etc... Its nice. But again you may miss having someone to share the experience with. When I went the longest I did was 3 days the first time and the second time I just did an afternoon of highlights (favorite rides).

As long as you don't mind being by yourself, its a great experience. Welcome to the boards and have fun!!

Thanks everyone! I guess I just need to get the courage up to travel by myself. Just afraid I will miss my family if I'm totally by myself. I definitely don't want to go with someone like I did in May. It was a bad experience. Never go to Disney with someone who hates to walk! I do know that I would be extremely comfortable staying a Disney by myself because I know it so well. :)

That's why God invented cell phones. ;)

Solo at WDW is wonderful. It is a very different experience than touring with a group, but if you are a relatively secure person you shouldn't have a problem.

I tend to be very co-dependent when it comes to WDW - always making sure everyone is having a good time, everyone is seeing what they want, everyone is happy with how the day is going. This is especially true for those of us that travel with less experienced Disney folk.

When I'm solo, it's all about...ME. When *I* want to go on a ride, or when *I* want to sit down and take a break.

A couple of times a day I find a nice bench or take a nice walk and chat up someone from home on the cell. I'm notorious for calling friends who are at work and saying, "Gee...guess what? I'm standing right in front of the ToT/Castle/etc."

It's not for everyone, but it can add a whole new dimension to your WDW experience. If it's something you'd even consider, I'd definately encourage you to go for it.

Good luck!!!!!

Going to Disney alone can be quite good, when I used to live in the area I would often just go to Magic Kingdom and just enjoy the atmosphere, I would wander up and down Main Street, meet some characters and go on one or two rides. It was always nice just to go at my own pace and enjoy the ambience of the place.
Animal Kingdom and Epcot world showcase are also great places to do this, wander around the pavillions and take lunch in a different country it was always great. You get the chance to notice the detail and chat to the Cast Members rather than dashing around madly to get to the next ride.
I would say go for it, try and go for the Food and Wine Festival in October there is lots of extra activities going on for you to enjoy. Don't go for a long time on your own though unless you are really happy with your own company as you may start to feel lonely after 3 or 4 days, remember Disney was created for families and its always "extra magical" to share the experience.

Hi just got back from Disney. A trip alone to Disney would be awesome. There were some rides my kids didn't want to get on .... Mission Space they both chickened out . So my husband and me rode it. Also being a solo rider you may be able to get on rides quicker .
My 2 cents for the day.

Wilderness Lodge August 1998
Caribbean Beach August 2003
Port Orleans-Riverside August 2005
Next trip 2007 ???

Out of 22 year of going to WDW only too times I was with someone. I like
WDW by my self know one to tell you were to go and you can do the thing you like.
You can go on the Rides you like or just sit and have a cold drink and you can eat
in the places you like. So I love WDW by my self. Just have a good time.

I've never done Disney solo - the nearest I got was in 2001 when I left the family in MGM and went to get a haircut at MK by myself
If you're the sort of person who can chat easily with strangers then a solo trip to WDW won't be a problem as there will be friends everywhere. You can do your own schedule at your own pace and be totally selfish about it !!
Let us know what you decide

I go solo all the time (Sept 11-16 will be my 8th time solo in the past 2 years), but I'm a solo kind of person anyway, so I guess it would depend on how much you need other people's company whether you'd enjoy yourself or not. I especially like being able to go at my own pace, do what I want, when I want. And this next trip, I'm hoping to do the Keys to the Kingdom tour too.

Have fun either way you go!

I just completed my first solo Disney trip. It was only one day, and I choose to go to EPCOT because it is my favorite park. It was a lot of fun being able to choose what to go on.
I don't think I would want to go more than 3 days by myself, I would start to miss the interactions I have with my son.

Enjoy yourself,
Cindy

The Freedom to do whatever you want!
The Freedom To Sleep, eat, ride, act like a loon and not feel embarresed about it while singing the "Imagination song while riding the ride" Kinda freedom!
