Bit of a tangent, but can anyone here tell me if the Disney visa is actually a good deal?
It depends on your needs. If you get the Premiere Card, which has a 50 dollar annual fee, you get 2% earnings on fuel, restaurants, and supermarkets. You will also get 2% on most Disney purchases. The regular card carries no fee and you earn 1% on everything. The card will get you some Park Discounts, access to the lounges in WDW and some special M&G opportunities.
There are cards out there that will give you more money back which can obviously be used for anything. I like my card as I know I will use those rewards dollars earned for my stateroom credits on my next Disney Cruise. Your mileage may vary.

When booking my room only reservation I was told that it needed to be paid in full 30 days before my check in date. Is this because it is a Disney Visa discount? I have always had the option to pay the balance on my arrival day using the general discount or the passholder discount. Is this new?

If I were to get, say, 15% off, would I be getting 15% off the price of the entire package or would the price only extend to the room portion of the cost?

There's a way to book a room-only as a package, where it then follows the terms of a package (due in full 30 days out), and also receives the benefits (the "Magical Extras"), even though it doesn't have tickets or dining.

It sounds like that's what happened. It is a bit odd that they went there first, because they should have been able to just make it a room only booking!

If you have an 8 digit comformation number, that's what happened. If you have 12 digits, it will be due at check-in and they just misspoke.

Percentage discounts are just on the room.

Thank you for posting this link. I hate that I do not get informed by Chase about these specials :( I missed out when they came out last year for the fall specials so I went on to Chase and made sure my e-mail was registered and still never any notifications from them...thank goodness for WDWMagic!

Bummer no discounts for November from Disney Visa....I am still trying to absorb I will be paying rack rate....:bored:. Wish I had known when I booked the hotel was 1/2 shut for refurbs....they told me they were only outside new build but of course the message boards tell all...;). So I can see why discount WL when you have full occupancy.....sigh....

Thank you!! I just got off the phone with Disney reservations and was able to make it room only. I have my new 12 digit conformation number and cancelled my old one. Thanks for letting me know the difference so I could get it changed to what I wanted.

I always book the room only package and take advantage of the 6 mo no interest financing with Disney VIsa....yes I have to "pay" 30 days prior but it is put into deferred payment, and I can opt to pay towards it or wait til my tax refund hits. Somehow in the past though I have had a room only package as such and payment was charged at arrival and I could still cancel 5 days out.....they told me room only package was 30 day cancellation this time. Always good to ask! Everything else was covered by my Disney Reward Dollars for this trip....its been 3 years since I went so I acquired a lot of reward dollars!

It sounds like the same as above- they booked it as a room-only package. A room package without tickets and dining.

It's a bit odd that they're automatically doing this without request instead of the traditional true room-only bookings, but it is still possible! You can call back and try to have them book it as a room only, due at check-in, with the deposit refundable until 5 days out.

The only thing that may prohibit that is availability. Packages and room reservations can sometimes have different availability (which seems illogical- you would think that if the discounted room is available, you could book it either way. But that's not always the case; sometimes only one or the other will have rooms remaining.

But except for that- there's no reason why you can't book a room-only reservation.
