I have just got back from 2 weeks in Disneyland, and I have to admit it was the best time of my life! I loved it that much that I was home 3 days and have book again for this August for another 2 weeks!! I know I have a cheek . We stayed at the All star Music this time but when we go in August we are staying In the All star sports, an I am taking my little brother as a surprise for his birthday.

Whilst I was there I seen a lot of the Disney Vacation Club Reps around, Can anyone explain how it works? (I should have really spoken to a rep whilst I was there).

Also my Boyfriend fell in love with the golf courses there, and really would like to make use of them this time, does any one have any details of prices to play and hire the clubs?

Thanks

First, just a polite correction, if you were at All-Star Music, you were at Walt Disney World in Florida, not Disneyland in California.....

Second, if you are used to staying and paying for value accommodations, then the Disney Vacation Club probably isn't for you.

DVC is a way for most people to pre-pay for 40-50 years of vacations and locking in the room rates, but the rates are for deluxe level resorts.

If purchased from Disney, you'd be looking at purchasing 160 points minimum at $104 per point or $16,640 (one time cost) plus yearly dues of roughly $750...resale purchases would be less....

Once you have the 160 points, you can use those points each year to reserve your room nights, based on the point chart for that resort.

I know others will be along to add more..

See http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/moreMagic/golf/golfHome for golf info.

Red or Blue side of the city.

I think you can still get SSR for $94 per point. With 160 points that's $15,040 / £7,650(approx) up front. At approx $4.25 per point maintenance you will need to fork out approx another £350 per year. Remember, you'll have to pay for your air-fares from England as well, plus park tickets etc.

You'll be tied in up to 2054....

A quick way to look at it is to estimate how much you would normally spend on a holiday (remembering that as you get older, you'll probably start paying for higher quality accomodation). Then assume that you will visit Florida once every 2 years. Divide £7,650 by the number of times you're likely to visit between when you consider buying and 2054. Add in you £350 (and subsequent % increases over the coming years) plus the cost of your airfares and any other add-ons (care hire etc) that you might normally have. If the final figure comes out to what you are happy with then consider it more strongly.

This is a long term commitment, so bare that in mind. Also AKL is available and hopefully, soon to be announced Kingdom Towers will become available.

You purchase a certain amount of points that are refreshed every year.

Villa accomodations are based on point charts:

studio
one bedroom
two bedroom
grand villas

Studio is the cheapest point total with the grand villa requiring the most.

All the accomodations are located within a deluxe resort and share amenities with that resort.

Along with the initial purchase price, dues are charged yearly for upkeep and necessities.

So are there any downsides to buying a membership? Are the annual fees locked in at the current rate? Will the points you purchase always buy as much as they do now?

Thanks!

Are the annual fees locked in at the current rate?

No. They have been going up between 2.5-3.5% each year. Annual dues cannot be increased by more than 15% from the proceeding year without the approval of a majority of owners.

Will the points you purchase always buy as much as they do now?

Yes. The total number of vacation points required to use all rooms during each calendar year can never increase. However, DVC may reallocate or adjust point requirements; reallocation cannot exceed 20% per calendar year. If vacation points for one specific night increase, it will be offset by a decrease on another night or nights.

Since My wife and I got Married, we honeymooned at the carribean beach resort which is a moderate resort. Then after realizing that We both loved Disney, We started coming twice a year, thus needing to start using value resorts to keep up this habit, but also having to cramp ourselves into a smaller size room to be able to do this. Well, I am guessing that tinkerbell sprinkled pixie dust on Debbie because something clicked a few months after a DVC Tour and We decided to join last spring. With our 300 points, we managed to travel to WDW 5 times last year just by staying sundays to thursdays and going at value seasons. I totaled up what we would have paid for these resorts with cash and compared that to what we did pay for our DVC loan payments and yearly fees and We saved over $2000.00 with DVC and truely stayed in a home away from home. If you can afford the initial payout for the points and can travel at least once or twice a year to the resorts, I can see this really paying itself off after only about 7or 8 years into Your visits to the resorts. When payed off, just think, You are staying at these deluxe resorts for about $1200. or so a year if You purchased 300 points at Saratoga Springs Resort. Even 2 trips a year makes that just over $600.00 per visit at these beautiful resorts. Cash in a DVC studio costs at least $275-$300.00 per night depending on when You go, so The math is in Your favor if You can afford the Money to lay out in the beginning and travel enough to use Your points. Just My opinion, but Don't go by Me, after only 1 year, I am totally hooked and so very happy that We made the choice to join when We did.
