Disney Vacation Club Question

Hello,
My Wife and I are considering a vacation club package. We do have a question regarding points:

- For example, if we were to purchase 200 points in 2007 and with that amount we can purchase 1 week at AKV. In 5 years from now, we will still have enough points to stay 1 week at AKV? Our question is, will the point values change from year to year?

Kind Regards,

Dean :animwink:

Dean,

200 points will get you a week (in 2007 or 2008) in a studio any week of the year, a 1 BR (non-savanah view)any week except Christmas or Easter, or a 2 BR (value size)in January, September, or the first two week of December.

I assume you realize that the 200 points is a recurring yearly alotment. So in answer to your question, if DVC were to raise the points to stay in one week of the year, or raise the points to stay in one type of view or accomodation, it would have to lower it in another week, type, accomodation, so that the total amount of points on the point chart remains unchanged.

Did that make sense?

There is a set amount of points at each DVC resort. Disney may reallocate the existing points. That is, they may change the amount of points required for a particular season, or even reduce or increase the seasons, but the overall points at a resort must stay the same.

Hello,
Thank you for the timely response. I think I understand your response. Our main concern is that we would need to buy additional points throughout the years in order to maintain our one bedroom accomodations at AKV.

When you buy the 200 points for $104 per point, or whatever it is now, you don't have to buy them again. You only have to pay the "Annual dues" for your points. AKV is $4.62 per point, $924 per year.

From what I have read, I don't believe that there has been much point shifting at the resorts through the years. Mainly looks like weeks change seasons based on when Easter and Thanksgiving fall.

I am unsure about rules here for linking other sites, and whatnot, but try a google search for mouseowners. ;)

The point requirements could be changed by disney, but up till now 200 points 10 years ago got you the same amount of time that 200 points gets you now.

Sometimes they change the seasons, meaning that 200 points during christmas does not get you what 200 points during january would.

To clarify - Each room costs the same number of points per year, every year. How many points per night can fluxuate each year, but 200 points is still 200 points.

I wish I had Disney's explanation handy, it's much clearer than what we've said. ;)

We just bought in on Saturday - the way it was explained to us was that the point value doesn't change, but the dates do, simply based off of supply and demand. Since Easter Break and Christmas Vacations change yearly, they adjust the dates accordingly. While Christmas is always on the 25th, it doesn't necessarily mean that vacations always start on the 20th, for example.

While I'm not 100% sure, I think they can also fluctuate the points within a season, it's just that wherever they add points, they have to take away points somewhere else.

Every DVC room is "worth" a certain amount of points throughout the year. For the sake of argument, say a certain studio is worth 60,000 points over the course of the year. They can shift those points around if they notice certain times of year become more or less popular than they thought they'd be or they used to be, but they can't decide that room is suddenly worth 65,000 points and spread out all those extra points over the course of the year, forcing DVC members to either take shorter vacations or buy more points, because that would mean they could also conceivably, sell more interest in that resort. In a way, it would be comparable to a condo developer and association trimming a little bit off of everyone else's condo in a given building - after those people have signed contracts and biught mortgages and moved in - to make another condo or two available for sale. Which is illegal

DVC Point Question

Hello,
Thanks to everyone for the explanation. Although we are still undecided, we do feel we are closer to becoming a DVC Member.

Kind Regards,
Dean
