I joined back on 2000 and the discounts for me don't matter. If your looking for a break on tickets or something like that you have the wrong idea on what DVC is. It's a time share. You pay so much money and get so many points that you can use how you wish. Now i go to Disney once a year every year for the past 20 years. My parents and I have spent a lot of money on rooms. Now that I have the DVC I no longer have to spend $2000+ every year on rooms. The club was $10,000 when I joined. The first year I had it I went to Hawaii for my honeymoon. The room would have cost my over $4000 for the time I was there. With the club it didn't cost me anything. I've just returned from Disney BWV. Again it would have cost me $2000+ just for one week. I just 2 years I've recouped over 50% of the cost of DVC and I still have it until 2042.

That's where the savings comes into play. If you plan to take a vacation every year to Disney or somewhere's else then the answer is yes it's worth it.

I hope I was able to help

We think DVC is worth it and just joined this past year. I wish we would of sooner, but didn't have the money to get into it then. One thing of interest to know is right now DVC ends the year 2042. if you join 5 years from now it will cost more to get into it, and it still ends the year 2042. So if you are thinking about it, don't put it off for 5 or 10 more years.

They do have some random discounts, but don't really promise anything, all surprizes are just that.

If you are a Disney nut and love staying on prop, then it is worth it. It is really the only way the "home away from home" resorts are affordable. The fun of staying at Disney with the room of a condo.

Word to the wise, buy as many points as you think you will need, adding on isn't as good as a deal. And if you can buy at your favorite resort.

Rent!

Several years ago we considered joining the DVC. The minimum cost to join at that time was $11,000. So, before joining, we decided to "rent points" just to see how we liked the DVC. What we found out is that it is far less expensive to rent points from existing members than to buy a membership. You get all the advantages of membership without having to become a member. The current cost to rent points is about $0.62 on the dollar and there are lots of points to be found. Lots of people buy into the DVC and then change their plans due to any number of personal matters. They find themselves forced to rent out points so they don't take a total loss. During the last 5 years we've made 8 trips to WDW by renting DVC points and saved a lot of money in the process. Sure, you have to do your homework and look for the points, but with the Internet it's "easy as pie" (as Peter Pan would say). Since the economy started to go south after the first quarter of 2000, more and more DVC points are for rent every day. You can find a DVC room at any of the WDW resorts (OKW, DBV, Villas @ DWL or BVC) any time of the year. Naturally, the cost for renting points varies with the time of year and the individual resort but it is always less expensive than the purchase price with none of the headaches (annual fees for one). If you're a good shopper you can always find a deal. Also be aware that DVC is a separate entity apart from The Walt Disney Holding Company. That's my $0.02.

We've been members for just two years, but we're kicking ourselves for not joining (buying) earlier. The room rentals for the four previous trips would have covered almost our entire initial investment. We just added another 100 points for a total of 400. (We've got 300 at Wilderness and 100 at Beach Club.) Can't say enough good about DVC. If you're a Disney theme park fan, and you stay in moderate to deluxe resorts, you NEED to check out DVC. We're glad we did!

Ok, something else that hasn't been mentioned (other than the very first post), is that you can use your points pretty much all over the world....I mean, you can go to Hawaii, over seas to areas like France, Austria or even Spain...Mexico, there are even places pretty much within every state of the US that you can stay in. You can even find a listing to stay in downtown Chicago!

We bought into DVC back in August of 2000 and I must say that it was the "bestest" (ok, I know it's not a word but my son uses it all the time...give me a break, he's only 3) thing that we ever got involved in. Believe me, we were in a different time share and they kept selling it to other companies until we were just totally disappointed in what they were saying we were allowed to do. Back then it was $10,000 to buy 210 points and we took their payment option at like a silly percentage rate. We bought into the BWVs but have never stayed there yet. Instead we've stayed at OKW mostly and then the Polynesian last year.

Joining the DVC pretty much assures you that you can take a vacation EVERY year and almost anywhere that you would want to be. Skiing in Colorado, shopping spree in New York City or drinking some margaritas on the beach in Mexico! Or better yet, going to see the mouse every chance you get! ha ha ha:lol:

Also, as for discounts, I haven't used my card that much but I do know that you get a 10% discount at The Disney Stores (like at local malls) and you also get 10% off like a 5-6-7 day pass but no discounts are available on an annual pass. (For an annual pass, you need to have the Disney Club card which is $35 per year and then you save $15 off each annual pass which pays for the Disney Club card right there.)

I would love to purchase more points b/c we travel to Disney twice a year...atleast one week in the summer and then one extended weekend to start off our Christmas festivities. I don't know what they're charging now to get into the club but I've gotta say, it's worth it 100%!!!!

Can't wait until I hear a CM say:
"Welcome Home Mrs. Skalski!"

19 days to Disney
