This is very good news. If you didn't know, there is a format battle being fought between two types of technology for High-Definition DVDs - Blu-ray (developed by Sony) and HD-DVD (developed by Toshiba and NEC). Blu-ray is the far superior technology (the basic reason is it holds FAR more data, which means better quality video, as well as more extras and stuff like that). However, HD-DVD is cheaper to produce, so a lot of companies are supporting it. See this article for details.
Anyway, Disney hadn't yet committed to a camp, and is in many ways the "big fish" - whichever side it supports is likely to win the "format war" (because, let's face it, people buy more Disney videos than anything else). Thankfully, they've decided to support the better format! It's terrific news for 2-3 years from now, when many more people will have High Def televisions and want to watch super-high-quality DVDs.
