Disney to Host 2024 Olympics?!

Orlando should be smart and pass it up. Read "No Boston Olympics" reasons for Boston saying NO. Getting an Olympic bid is a major fail, producing enormous debt and long term problems. Even with a Disney involvement, theres nothing for Disney to gain. Goofy should drop the torch.

The fact that LA maintained the Olympic facilities for their original purpose is one reason LA is the preferred city as little needs to be built for the 2024 Games

If I am Orlando, never consider be a host of the Olympic games. The reasoning I am saying that is because Chicago was considered for the 2016 summer olympics and I still recalled the experience from it. I never been a citizen of Chicago or the state of Illinois, but it did affect the state I live in.

The other reasons why not is due to the amount of Tourists Orlando also gets a year and Olympics is a money pit.

One of the problems for Chicago was the plan of having some of those events actually be hosted in Wisconsin and some of the athletes being housed in Wisconsin also. The plan even included creating a high speed rail system for transportation that is for Chicago, Madison, and Milwaukee.

While Chicago didn't win the bid, the taxpayers of Chicago are on the hook for 140 million dollars in principal and interest on the purchase of property for an Olympic Village to house athletes.

Being as I speak some French being a cyclist, and wanting to take my daughters there in 2024, I've been following Paris' bid closely. That being said, they have some really great venues and their bid is quite strong.

As do I, The French know how to do events like this witness the Tour de France but they will need to get the security situation in Paris under control for a successful bid. OTOH, Kim the Fat may make LA irrelevant ...

As a O-Town resident I hope and pray this plague never hit Orlando. The Olympic committee is driven by graft and corruption so for Orlando to win my tax dollars would have to be given away by politicians whom I hope are more honest than that. What's worse, the games themselves have devolved into a joke. Is there anyone who can seriously call a team of the top NBA players being put forth as an amateur team anything less than a cruel joke. Golf and bowling as Olympic sports, I am not an athlete but I would think a sport would require you to at least break a sweat.

Not quite sure why you went down the path of attacking the athletes and sports??? The committee, sure. But the other stuff...weird...

You clearly have never golfed in a tropical climate... and golf is not putt-putt. It's a lot more athletic than it looks from the couch.

Yeah, walking 18 holes in Florida with a pull cart isn't exactly "not breaking a sweat"....

As a native, I'm pulling for my home town. The 1984 games were the most successful, due to the leadership of Peter Ueberroth. I still have my t-shirt from those games - a tad worn and it no longer fits. Along with pictures of the Torch as it ran through my parents' neighborhood.

LA24! :)

Sweet, I plan on being at either city. However, I would rather be in Paris for the Tour de France then stick around for the Games.

I remembering watching the '96 Olympics in Atlanta on TV while I was staying at the Contemporary at the time, does that help any? I would only support a Disney bid for the Olympics if EPCOT had a REALLY HUGE Re-Imagining and Re Introduction to the world to coincide with the games. We need to STRONGLY declare to the world that it is time to FOCUS and not shy away from using our brains to actually advance the health, life longevity, and peaceful happiness of humanity. It's a small world after all!!!

I saw that in the Orlando Sentinel, it spurred all the buzz on so many websites. It was a curious notion. It does have a great deal of credibility. It has the space, the hotels, the infrastructure, two great airports, the lakes all suitable for the Olympics.

I took it more as Hey Look At Us more than anyone had threw their hats into the ring but still it does ring true to what committees are looking for. Still I don't look at this surprise entry as a WDW plea, more hey look at Orlando and the cities held close for venues as a whole.

Kudo's to the Sentinel. It is an interesting thought for this bid or forward.
