I'm heading to the World in a week and am hoping to find some Disney themed model railroad cars for my sons HO scale setup. Preferably I would like to find some monorail cars, but woud settle for for anything Disney themed. I figure DTD would be my best bet but I don't recall seeing anything on previous trips ( mind you I wasn't looking for it then ).
Just wondering if anyone has come across anything like this. Thanks.

They do make a monorail set that is very close to HO scale ... you can also purchase many of the WDW buildings to go with it (Cinderella's Castle, Haunted Mansion, Spaceship Earth, etc.) Over the years, they have added a lot of pieces to this set. However, the monorail cars won't work on actual HO track since it has its own track. My dad is an HO scale collector, and he's compared his monorail set to his trains and they are very close in size. I know this probably doesn't answer your question, but the monorail set they offer is very impressive and might be worth checking out in case you haven't seen it. They have a really nice display of it at Once Upon a Toy Store at Marketplace. Hope that helps, and have a great time on your trip! I'm heading down in 2 weeks :sohappy:

Also available is an HO scale Walt Disney's railroad train set made by Bachmann. The Carolwood Pacific Rail Road.

Problem is that I have never seen it sold in WDW .

Thanks for posting that! I'll have to show that to my dad ... he was going to attempt to incorporate the monorail/buildings set found at WDW into his HO scale set somehow just to make it more Disney, but I think he'll like this one even more.

I'd love to have an HO scale layout. I currently have a perminant N scale one and it is very difficult to work with. There aren't very many products that are sold for this scale and they're expensive! $120 for a decent locomotive  That is the most I have spent for a loco, but I think it was worth it.
Anyway, I'm more interested in the landscaping and detailing than in the trains themselves.

Here are two HO scale Disney train sets. http://www.bizrate.com/search__cat_id--1__keyword--disney+train+model__lp--1__sfsk--0.html

The Carolwood Pacific is the same one as mentioned in an earlier post, but the cost is under $100.00. Note that the CP is Walt's first train. It was a 7/8 live steamer that ran around his house and started his desire for a larger version for his theme parks.

The other train is a special edition that is not one that you see at the parks.

There are a number of Disney locos that are copies of DL/WDW versions, but are in G-Scale. There is also one of Casey Jr (G-scale loco only) from DL and another one of the Wilderness RR (G-scale, live steam, loco and cars - sold separately) available if you can find them (very limited editions both).

Also in G-scale from LGB is Ward Kimball's Chloe (no longer manaufactured but you can find one on eBay every now and then) as well as a new one from LGB that looks like BTM/Mine train .. both in G-scale.

try ebay, I checked it before i posted this and use words like disney, tran, ho, mickey, and I came up with a few neat items. I know i saw one set for an HO scale one time at greenbergs train show in the boston area that had a mickey themed engine and the cars has all different mickey's on them showing how the mouse has progressed over the years from steamboat willy to the newer 3D mickey

You may want to check out nscalesupply. They have quite the assortment of N scale - much better than anywhere else I've seen! My local shops don't carry much N either - so Nscalesupply is perfect for me.

I've been taking some detailed pictures of the locomotives at WDW, and hope to scratch build an O scale model of all four - even though I normally model in N(ormal) scale.

Ah yes, I have nscalsupply favorited. :) My dad used to order from them.

There used to be 3 shops in my area that sold model train merchandise. One was pretty good for a while then got rid of all its N scale stuff. The other 2 were actually camera shops that sold limited amounts of N scale products. All 3 are closed now. :) So in order to get material (from a shop), I have to drive 40 or so miles to Trainland's Trainworld.

Now here's where modeling the Walt Disney World Railroad (or the Eastern Star Railway at Animal Kingdom) in HO scale gets tricky: The WDWR runs on 3-foot-gauge track, which when rendered in HO scale, is approximately TT-gauge... and finding trains in HOn3 is difficult and expensive at best, while the ESRy is on a 3-foot-4-inch-gauge track, which requires scratchbuilding and laying track by hand. I'm hoping to someday build an HO-scale model of an imagined Disney theme park incorporating parts of WDW, DisneySea, and Disneyland Paris, and probably borrowing some features from Universal's Islands of Adventure and Sea World Orlando. I'll probably call it Disney's Mechanical Kingdom, and make it sort of steampunk...
