Disney talks to sell Angels heat up
Friday April 11, 11:45 am ET
LOS ANGELES, April 11 (Reuters) - Talks between the Walt Disney Co. (NYSE
IS - News) and advertising magnate Arturo Moreno for Moreno to buy the Anaheim Angels baseball team have heated up, and Moreno may meet with league officials this weekend to discuss the deal, the Los Angeles Times reported on Friday.
The newspaper, quoting unnamed sources, said talks had become "feverish" and that Moreno might meet with baseball commissioner Bud Selig this weekend to discuss a possible deal.
"This deal is progressing, but we have no new info at this time," Disney spokeswoman Michele Nachum told Reuters on Friday.
Moreno, a former part-owner in baseball's Arizona Diamondbacks, could not be immediately reached on Friday for comment.
The asking price for the Angels is reportedly about $200 million.
Moreno made his fortune in outdoor advertising. Forbes magazine has estimated his personal wealth at nearly $1 billion.
The newspaper said Moreno had eclipsed former front runners James and Robert Nederlander, whose family owns a chain of theater and concert venues, and Boston real estate developer Frank McCourt.
