I had a high school social studies teacher tell us IN CLASS that, in Disneyland's early days, Walt forbid handicapped people from visiting the park.

Maybe they were confused, up until mid 80's physically challenged people were forbidden from WORKING inside the park in view of the guests.

#1 Co-worker of mine insists that the original "Freaky Friday" starred Tatum O'Neil. (correct answer-Jodie Foster)

#2 My sister-in-law insists that we rode the Indiana Jones Adventure at WDW. (correct answer-it's at Disneyland)

In both cases I just shrugged and walked away when they both got angry at me and told me I was wrong. Not worth fighting over!

Usually when I hear these types of things, I don't get too bent out of shape. I know the Magic Kingdom isn't "Disney World",", but I'm not going to give everyone a Disney history lesson every time they mess up a name. It's, IMO, a waste of both of our time.

Yes!! Sometimes when I mention I just got back from Disneyland, people will say, "Oh, the one in Florida?"

How 'bout when people refer to Magic Kingdom as "Disney World"? Or when they refer to Magic Kingdom as "The" Magic Kingdom? Or when they refer to Disney/MGM Studios as "MGM" (I realize that with that last one, a lot of us do that on these boards. But we do it as an abbreviation, not because we actually think that's what it's called).

Another spin on this is when people tell stories where you know they are lying because you know that couldn't possibly happen at WDW (or at least would be extremely UNLIKELY to happen). Some examples:

-I've had people tell me about how they've climbed out of the boat on Pirates of the Caribbean and then have interacted with the pirate "robots".

-People have told me about how they've lost things on Space Mountain when the ride "went upside down".

And my personal favorite...

-I wish I had a dollar for every time someone has told me stories where a character has flipped them off (I'd love to know HOW), gotten fresh with them or someone they were with, or otherwise abused them in some way. I'm not claiming any of these are impossible. But it seems so incredibly unlikely given the job market, Disney's standards for the characters, the constraints of the character costumes themselves, and frequency at which I tend to hear stories about this.

That's a good attitude, and one I wish I could adopt myself. But I just can't help it when someone makes a claim and tries to sound like such an expert when they have no idea what they're talking about. I even see it on these boards sometimes. For example, I'm currently in a debate with someone on another thread where we're discussing the safety record of Disneyland versus other theme parks (i.e. Six Flags). This individual has made the claim "Other theme parks have much worse safety records. You just don't hear about it because Disney gets more publicity" (or something to that effect). I HATE when people make statements like that! First of all, if you "don't hear about it" how did THEY hear about it?? Secondly, they're clearly just stating their PERCEPTION, but they're stating it like they know it is a fact. Yet, when challenged, they can't back it up with anything. Sadly, Disneyland's safety record has been very poor in the past few years. This is based on documented information which anyone can access from the Consumer Product Safety Commission web site as well as a few others. Whenever I've pointed this out to other posters, I've usually either been accused of bagging on Disneyland (which I would never do...I LOVE Disneyland), or I get no response at all from the person who so confidently touted their information.

this is why we have these forums, to surround ourselves with people who feel the same way we do, its a great feeling when you talk about something Disney and people actually know whatt you're talking about.

As for those kinds of people this forum is about, I say scr*w em', if I know I'm right about something I don't care what they say about it, espacially and i mean espacially something about Disney.:animwink:

Here is something that irritates me to no end:

People who say things like "I don't know why that ride was shut down...it was one of the most popular rides in the park!"

I have been going to Disney World twice a year for 11 years.
I can pretty much tell when a ride is popular or not.
When there is no wait during peak times..it's pretty much a dead ride and it's time to change it because people are bored with it or don't enjoy it and it's just taking up space.

Examples: Mr Toads Wild ride.
Alot of people Loved Mr Toad..it was a classic..but for the last 2 or 3 years of it's excistence, there was never a long line to ride it.

Enchanted Tiki room...same thing. While it was a classic, there were no great hordes of people pushing and shoving tryiing to get on that ride...unfortunately the "Under New Management" version isn't fairing much better...perhaps audio-animatronic birds just aren't considered Cool anymore <sigh> Who knows.

Kitchen Kabaret featuring Bonnie Appetite...while it was adorable, the audiances soon got tired of it much like they did for it's follow-up act Food Rocks.

There are others I could mention, but I don't want to cause a flurry of flamers to attack me.

I guess some people just aren't good at Letting go..but when you get up in my face and say "It's the most popular Show on PROPERTY!" be prepared for a rebuttle because the fact is...what YOU consider to be your favorite attraction may be dying...and you need to learn to deal with that. :animwink:

Just for the sake of perspective, if you saw two movies a year, would it make you an authority on the current state and trends of the industry? If you drove your car in the city twice a year, would you be able to say with authority which roadways were consistently overcrowded and such?

My point? Going twice a year doesn't really give you a good sampling base for a judgement call on a ride's popularity. When you go affects crowds, what time your in the park affects crowds, etc...

That being said, you can get a general idea about popular/non-popular attractions. TTA never has a liner, though - yet there is always someone on it. Spaceship Earth has a good sized line at one point in the day, then it's pretty much a walk on. Is this because of the ride mechanism, or because of ride popularity? Maybe it has to do with demographics, where something like Peter Pan has a much longer wait and more people going through, but much of that traffic is 4+ person families while Spaceship Earth would attract older folks, perhaps traveling without kiddies to take up space.

Now, someone living near Disneyworld who goes on a regular basis throughout the year - I'd be more inclined to take their observations to heart. Or, better yet, a cast member who's there every day.
