I was in my local DS today and spoke to the Manager. She said the new Mickey prototype stores they were going to use for all Disney Stores is now only for some stores of a certain smaller size store. The bigger DS will now be theme park themed with bright red sparkle floors and the store having heavy theme park theming with possibly a castle as a focal point of the store.

Now im just repeating what she said so if this is not true dont shoot the messenger. She said within 2 years the bigger format stores will all be this way with the smaller ones still changing to the mickey prototype.

I for one still hope CP doesnt live up to their bargain so they break the contract so Disney would buy the stores back and revamp the business unit.

BTW-any Disney Store CMS here????

As a former Disney Store CM, I do not see WDC buying back the stores. They made money, but not enough money in Burbanks eyes. I would love to see them back to where they used to be but I don't thinks its going to happen.

Former TDS CM here. I'm really kind of glad that the Mickey store won't be mass produced. I went to the one in the Florida mall and wasn't overly impressed. It just didn't feel "Disney" enough to me. More like The Gap with mouse ears. My store is still old-school pink and green.

I remember the old college looking blue and white sweaters with the khakis.

I did read thet CP is in renegotiations with TWDC about some issues about them not being able to revamp the stores fast enough.I think they were per contract supposed to do a certain number of stores per year and its not getting done.

I remember Disney Store trying to save itself by the new store look that rolled out in Cosa Mesa Ca, and Cherry Hill, NJ. It looked cool with a Mickey Kiosk in the middle of the store. I guess guest feedback wasnt good. Then DS came up with the idea of 2 different store concepts.
One was Disney Kids at Play and the other was Disney at Home which actually was to be a model of a home with each room having different disney offerings like bedding and bath etc. That was a quickly killed idea then nothing for about 3 years than CP cam along.

I think if they reduced the number of US stores to about 100-200 total they could have made it work. The DS in Europe is still owned by TWDC and is doing very well.

I was just at my Disney Store today and talking to my mom about how old it looks (the old school green with pink & yellow stars, and apparently dead figures that used to move). I'd love to see it get a rehab.

Luckily I hear EVERY store at one point will either be the Mickey Prototype or the theme park concept with EVERY store being redone-When is the question though.

I wish they would open up more stores. They used to have one in my local mall but not anymore. Now I drive an hour and a half but it could be worse. I am glad I still have one that close.

The closest store to me used to be the Danbury, CT store, and that's probably about an hour and a half from here. Then we got one here, which was cool, until it started to suck. The one in Danbury closed for awhile but then reopened in a different spot. We've also got the ones in Poughkeepsie and West Nyack. I don't know. Having a Disney Store here doesn't seem so cool anymore, but maybe I'd miss it if it were gone.

I will say "2 thumbs way up" for the cast members I have dealt with recently at my 2 local stores.(Circle Center Mall and Greenwood Park Mall Indy).
Both stores were extremely clean and the CMS were extremely outgoing and friendly. Both stores had someone always zoning keeping the store looking good which on a Saturday in a huge mall can be very hard. One thing I noticed was the Greenwood Park store has a square screen section on the huge tv monitor out.I noticed this in a few others back in Florida too(Naples,Fl).I guess these are hard to fix or in the process of getting revamped soon so maybe get totally replaced.

I was thinking the same thing. The one in the Palisades Mall is nicer.

hmm

Why doesn't disney do more of the World of Disney stores. Like the one in NYC.

I think if that was reproduced in other big cities it would do great.

I agree! I used to work at the DS by my house. I went away to school, came back, and it was so...generic...looking with the mouse ears. Like the Gap - no matter what mall you're in, it looks the same.

I hope so.

This time....

reduce the number of store to about 100.(US/CANADA).The European stores are fine-maybe scale a little in England.

Do not have Consumer Products run rather have it under Disney Parks and Resorts like World of Disney in New York.

Bring back all the origional merchandise that made DS so great.Collectibles,mens/womans clothes, watches, cells and BUSINESS RELATED such as ties, pens, briefcases, etc. They can adjust merchandise assortement as time goes on to reflect current "space to sales" merchandise mix.

Do not have the cookie cutter designs anymore.Since only 100 stores use imagineering to create local themed stores that reflect Disney and local theming.

Have a kiosk for DVC AND parks with LIVE CMS that can reserve rooms and give info like when they did at Epcot.

And for Gods sakes this time advertise using the same yellow shoes firm that does Parks and resorts media now showing magical shopping experiences.

Update website to have cross marketing synergy where not only you can buy a shirt but can make a reservation at WDW as well.

I think as a part od WDPR it could pose more profitable since it can have direct ties to financial success to increasing ticket sales and DVC plus selling merchandise rather that part of DCP were its numbers were stand alone.

oh and btw -yes I will offer to Run the chain as VP but only if you ask nice.:D

DISNEYSTORE LEAD CM HERE!!!

Now here is the deal if you want the low down on the new "Technicolor" Stores. The stores have been modernized with a new bigger doorway not the red mouse ears. The entire frnt 1/3 of the stores will be done in a red sparkle tile and red walls to create maximum inpack..alsio in the is area translucent tiles can be replaced that are back lightedl, so they can be changed for special events such as pirates 3 etc. The center of the store has become more warm in tone with a fo-wood fictures which my District manager said could be beat on for years and never show dents!! the walls will be a warm light shade of tan to create wamth and the ceiling will have the animation much like the pink and green stores now..just from above! The cash wrap area at the back will have live video feeds to theme parks around the world such as disneyland CA...disney world FL..and Hong kong disneyland!! finally the plush fountain will return to the middle of the stores with multiple video screens around the top to show the senergy DVDs and the flat panel TVs will have fun artictic frames around them to complete theming..........the stores look cool in concept and will have little touches of disney all around..like the dressing room will have a micky-icon chandeler inside and the knobs on dorrs will be more themed...just little details!! we are excited to see the stores get revamped and many of the stores need it!! The Childrens Place has done a great job with the stores and i applaude their efforts!! So the BIG QUESTION is when will the stores be done??

This undertaking will cost TCP around $175 million to complete over 4 years...yea thats right 328 stores in 4 years the remodel schedule as in quantity of stores to be completed within the 4 years is posted on the childrens place website (www.childrensplace.com) ..(under investor relations) also there u can read what the agreement is with TWDC and the penalty for not complying (cough)(cougt)($18million per violation)(cough)!!

As a disneystore cast member while not directly a disney employee, still continue the traditions of the Disney legacy and hope all who visit our stores will see a great level of guest service and if you believe you dont get it let a manger know!!

Anyways I hope this all is helpful information to you all and if you are ever in GREENSBORO, North Carolina come visit me at the Disneystore @ Four Seasons Town Centre!!

Have a Magical Day Everyone!! Kyle

I'm a lead at TDS. I'm in a pink and green store and can't wait until we get remodeled. We've been put off twice already. They're building an outlet in our district so we'll probably have to wait even longer.
