Disney Store Employee discounts

I heard rumors yesterday that our store in NEPA was closing and called the manager to find out they are shutting their doors. About a month ago, they were pretty certain they would be one to stay open, but like other posters said, what disney said they were going to do and what they actually did were totally opposite....:cry::cry::cry:

Actually, we stopped in the Mall at Steamtown last week and there are already liquidation signs all over the place. We spoke to the staff and they told us that all stores in NEPA will be closing - Steamtown and Wyoming Valley Mall. From what they said, it was a very harsh situation. It now appears as if the closest store will be in Hershey.:fork:

Based on the speculation I read in a different thread that linked to the actual bankruptcy docs, only the Circle Center mall location will be remaining open in Indy. I think there is one in Fort Wayne at Glenbrook that may be staying open as well.

They are trying to make it a destination store as opposed to an outlet. Granted they'll never be able to touch World of Disney but we used to wander through it every time we were in Castleton when it was down by center court. When they started losing the animation cells, adult clothing, kitchen wares, and turned into an overpriced kids toy store, we stopped walking in.

That's sad. :(:(:(
It's hard to imagine Lakeside being more profitable than the one at Somerset, but it hasn't been the same since the store moved. I've never been to the ones other than GLC. I hate to have to drive all the way out to Lakeside or GLC just to get my Disney fix. This is too bad, because I was really excited when I heard that Disney bought the stores back.

Likewise we were excited too until we heard we were closing. GLC isn't really Disney to me. It's a liquidation center of items that no one wants. When Hoop took over the stores in 2004 the Somerset location moved across the hall to a smaller store due to Hoop not wanting to pay the higher rent and fill up the space with more of the same product. Now the store isn't toward the center of everything like at Lakeside. I think that was the reason behind the decision of what one to keep open. Our mall owner is very upset and begged Disney to keep it open but they refused.

The other weird thing about this is that Hoop filed Chapter 11 to get rid of the Disney Store side of their company but kept TCP. I didn't think a company could file for only half of their business. :veryconfu

Hoop was a company set up by TCP specifically to run Disney Store. Though it was owned by TCP, Hoop functioned as a completely separate company and thus could file for Chapter 11 without all of TCP having to do so.

FWIW, I talked to a CM at the Castleton Mall store this weekend. They do not have things marked down, and she said they are not closing but relocating to a different spot in the mall. She says Circle Center is closing. She is hoping the new store goes back to the way it used to be, when it was a true destination! I hope she is right.

Castleton is not be closing, Circle Center is closing (40% off all merchandise, currently). Sarah, my fiancee, was set to begin working there last Monday. Since, she's received two calls delaying her starting date to (as of right now): June 1st. They didn't mention the relocation as being the reason, but I wonder if that's why? Needless to say, she is looking for work elsewhere...

I'm glad the store is staying! I was thinking about applying to work on weekends, I could have met Sarah. They didn't look like they were clearing things out to move, so I don't know when it's supposed to happen, but I did notice a large vacant store down toward Sears, next to Kaybee toys. It may have been the old Waldenbooks.

The CM discount at Disney Stores was 30%, does anyone know if it will remain the same or go down to 20% which is what CM's get in the parks?
