Disney stand alone hotels

Rather than new stand alone resorts, I wish they would get back to their core business of running the parks. Would rather see the money spent on improving the park experience or even upgrading the on site resorts. At one time they were going to build DisneyQuests all over, but they scaled that back. Would hate to see a Disney stand alone resort sold and become a Days Inn (nothing against Days Inns!)!

I wonder, then, if booking rates may be different from purchase rates (seeing as Aulani is part hotel and part timeshare). There might, for instance, be people wanting to splurge on a Disney-Hawaii vacation just once without intending to go again, or wanting a test run of the resort before committing to it for the rest of their lives.

This is just all speculation, anyway.

I wonder the same thing about DVC ownership vs. renting the regular rooms and DVC suites on a cash basis. It think there are many folks who have no interest in buying into DVC at Aulani but would certainly consider staying there when visiting Oahu (myself included).

We don't know what the numbers look like, but it depends on what Disney is expecting. There is the potential for the resort to get fully booked on a regular basis even with low sales numbers for DVC.

Wasn't the plan to have a mini theme park at some of the locations? At least an attraction/show to make the hotel unique. Look at the country bears, that attraction was scheduled to go to Lake Tahoe when Walt was planning the resort. Not that every hotel needs a dumbo ride, but a few unique C or D attractions on the hotel property could help lessen the blow and make the hotel compete against other brands.

I think it is going to take quite a few stars to line up before Disney builds a stand alone resort again. Like the article stated, there will not be a theme park to drive occupancy. The resort will have to be a destination in its own right and they simply can not put it anywhere. If Aulani is making money once the dust settles in a few years we might see them take a stab at similar projects in similar locations.

If the resort is the destination, which it should be with whatever prices disney will charge, ideas? I was thinking of disney finally building their ski lodge resort. Along with that, maybe a wilderness lodge on a large ranch.
