Basically it's a complete revamp of Downtown Disney.
because they couldn't think of anything else that needed a huge revamp/investment :banghead:
(Not aimed at you)
List of things that need HELP
1.Epcot (all of future world)
2.Hollywood studios (Lets get some attractions in there.)
3. Animal kingdom (lower on the list cause most of the problems are being slowly addressed.)
4. Downtown Disney
5. Magic kingdom.

It's PEOPLE! Disney Springs is PEOPLE!!!!

Oh, er, ahem, I mean it's Downtown Disney with a facelift: shops, restaurants, movie theater, bowling alley, etc., all open to the public and not requiring a park ticket. It's a nice diversion if you have time to kill and has some terrific restaurants, but it's by no means a "must-do" for any Disney vacationer (exception: the shopaholic).

Charleston Heston would be proud!!

Hahaha. The title of the thread says it all for me. Speaks volumes of my thoughts. Disney after all these years has yet to get their act together for that parcel no matter how much money they throw at it or how many times they change the name.

I will be curious to see how the concept art vs. end product turns out.

I prefer Downtown Disney. Sounds a little more grown up, somewhere to go and have dinner and stroll and buy stuff.

I agree. We here will know what Disney Springs is however I wonder if the majority of guests will catch on.
You have Saratoga Springs, Coronado Springs, Polynesian Springs, how many guests will just assume it is a resort when they hear Disney Springs? Downtown or Market brings a different image immediately to the general tourist than Disney Springs.

And what is Disney's fascination with the word Springs? What's up with that?

I do keep forgetting the new name for "El Rio del Tiempo" and call it "the boat ride in Mexico." :)

Yep, Disney was begging for the attraction to be nicknamed "the boat ride in Mexico," serves them right for branding it with a name like El Rio del Tiempo.

Want'a bet someone in Hollywood came up with that attraction name after rubbing elbows with too many weird Hollywood celebrates who name their children Dweezil, Camera, Sailor & FiFi?

I agree. The name Downtown Disney [correctly] evoked a busy shopping and dining center. Disney Springs sounds like a resort... or a retirement home.

or a Golf Course,
I swear the name change will get people confused.
"are we going to the shop and dinning center of disney or to a new park?"

I never remembered that name nor the new one. It is to many people the "boat ride in Mexico" or "Lil Small World". It doesn't matter. Does the fact that so many call SSE, the big golf ball diminish the ride itself. Probably the only reason that we call it SSE is because they reference the name in the ride itself. The fact that we are in World Showcase and it is in the Mexican Pavilion is a reason the the name would be in Spanish. It is right and appropriate. I love the Film in the French Pavilion...does it even have a name. Don't know, don't particularly care. When it was called El Rio the focus was on Mexico not on three cartoon characters that I, personally, find annoying. Even the American Adventure can be confusing. I think of the entire pavilion as the American Adventure, but, many more think of American Adventure as just the show. My point...if I have one, in this case is of little relevance.

Ouch! You got all that out of my poking fun at some of name choices? I don't recall stating the name diminished any ride experience. Yikes!

Lighten up a little there Gabe. Neither one of us was making a significant contribution to this thread and without "hearing" what you were saying, it was hard to really know the sarcasm in it. That's true in light of the fact that many people would not make the same connection. That last remark, however, was totally without any basis of necessity, thanks for being considerate!:)

"Springs" to me always reminds me of "Silver Springs" where the glass bottom boats are in or near Fruitland Park, FL. Glass Bottom Boat. Hmmmm..... now there's a concept for Disney! J/K.;)
