Disney Spring vs Downtown Disney

I think DS is fantastic, Many interesting, shops, it looks beautiful and very good restaurants. I know many say it's just a mall, but trust me, for many folks that go there, they do not have malls that look like this or that have these stores. Heck, the mall near me can barely keep a Macy's in business! A lot of these shops I have never heard of. I agree some of them are pricey, but that's okay because other ones are not. There also seems to be a lot of variety with restaurants for selection and price. The only things I think they should have done is put in a jazz club and put in a theater that would have the Disney musicals performed. And I'm more than fine that it is not directly aimed at kids, they have 4 parks and 2 water parks for that.

I didn't like Downtown Disney that much and once the record store closed, well, my interest went way down. Though, Disney Quest, not sure if it is still there, was cool.

I haven't looked much at the redesign, but what I have seen looks really nice and has me interested to go and check it out.

But I'm going to miss the kitschiness of Downtown Disney. At this point, the Marketplace area is really the only Mousified area, everything else is standard luxury mall junk I can find at home.

I don't go to Disney's mall to buy French milled lavender soap, designer sunglasses and silk ascots. I want Orange Bird juice glasses, EPCOT Center t-shirts and reproductions of Mary Blair prints. DH wants pins. And the kids want Prince Philip and Beast foam swords and shields to beat the snot out of each other....

Wow, I could not agree with you more! As a kid in the late 70's/early 80's, I can remember going to "Lake Buena Vista" to walk around and browse through some unique shops, all pretty much tailored to Disney. Then in the 90's, I still loved going there, only now it was called DTD or Marketplace, but still had that Disney vibe.

Being in the construction industry, DS is incredibly impressive to me, almost overwhelming to a point. The logistics and planning that went into building this place are simply amazing. But that's where any love for it ends for me. I have absolutely zero desire to walk through a super-expensive mall and browse through luxury shops that I can do at home here in South Florida. I go to WDW to escape reality and live in the "bubble" for 3 or 4 days. I want zero contact with the outside world. The only channel that is ever turned on in our room is the Disney Parks channel with Stacy. News or a normal tv show has never, and will never, be watched on our resort tv. Even though we drive to WDW, I will only take the buses around. The car gets parked and does not get looked at again until we are leaving to come home. So back to the shopping, I only want Disney merchandise while I'm there. Walking into a "normal, outside world" store while at WDW would kill me! So for me and my family, we will continue to only visit the Marketplace area, which consists of eating dinner at T-Rex, getting desert at Ghirdelli's, walking through WOD and then hopping on a boat back to the POFQ. I will not be spending any time in the new areas of DS.

I agree 100% with everything you said.

Tell me this, do they at least still play Disney music at Disney Springs? That was one of my favorite parts of Downtown Disney, shopping around to Disney tunes.
