Disney-Sony Studios?

I just read on CNN that Sony is buying MGM. The deal is expected to close this Friday. I wonder how that will effect the Disney-MGM Studios branding.

Coming Soon: Playstation - The Ride

That's interesting. I didn't know that. I was in WDW this weekend and went on Soarin'. I was listening to the theme music while in line and noticed that one was the music from the Rocketeer and the other was from Air Force One. I know that the Rocketeer is Disney, but Air Force One is Sony. I was wondering how they were able to use that music, but the recent merging of Sony with MGM could be why.

I believe that the contract for the MGM part of the Disney-MGM studios is set to expire soon any way meaning that the Disney - MGM studios will start to become either Walt Disney Studios like the version in Paris or The Disney Studios. Or we never know there may be a way for them to keep the MGM part with a new contract from sony.

Personally, I'd like it to be renamed Walt Disney Studios because Walt is the reason for everything. People would probably call it Disney Studios out of laziness just like Disney World. Don't forget about Walt!!!!

A sony addition would be fun. I was under the impression that Disney had already made plans to drop the MGM name at the end of the contract anyway.

I could be way off on this, but maybe someone else has more information. Around the end of February weren't the Ghostbusters removed from Universal Studios because their contract ended with Sony and was not renewed? Perhaps Sony dropped Universal because of an upcoming deal with Disney?

Just a thought...

Isn't Superman Warner Brothers property? I hear that theme all the time at Disney-MGM.

I agree with you, I find my self always correcting people when they call it disney world or disneyland florida, I find it a little bit disrespectable for people to call it a wrong name and even after being corrected still refer to it as the in correct name. I suppose calling it Disney World is ok because it is still pollitically correct but Disneyland Florida just bugs me.

great news that sony teamed up with disney on friday i can't wait for the new name of the disney-sony studios.

Um, I believe Disney was in partnership with MGM and that had gone by the wayside a couple of years ago, and they have been slowly removing the MGM references from the park. If you will notice in planning videos, etc...they refer to them as Disney Studios. I dont think you will see the Sony partnership in any form or fasion.

I could be wrong, but I believe during the planning process Walt Disney wanted to call his "Florida Project" just Disney World. I believe it was Roy Disney who changed the name to the current Walt Disney World. Not positive.

A couple of months back some one spoke said that in the UK, on the planning videos they were not allowed to call it Disney-MGM and referred to it as The Disney Studios, does any one know what this legal glitch was?

You are correct. It was named Walt Disney World by Roy Disney out of honor and respect for Walt.

I believe that you are correct, but the name change was made as a tribute towards what Walt had done in life, and so it was decided to be Walt Disney World.

I should note there was already a Plastation - The Ride.

Blackpool Pleasure Becah. It was an S&S spaceshot tower. It had a giant playstation symbol. Eventually though the name was changed. I wonder though if the name is worse than Bling, or Pepsi Max the Big One.

And on a note. Walt Disney studios should not be done just for the reason of honoring Roy. I think if the park were to be renamed, it should be Disney Bros. Studios or just Disney Studios.

Oh man, I hope so! With Disney, the GB's could get the respect (and attraction) that they deserve.

Not to say that the Spooktacular was bad, it was just short-lived.
