Disney should start it's own airline

Sell seats only as part of packages that coincide with a Disney Resort stay. I think this could be an all around winner for everyone. Like Magical Express, but on a larger scale. Airfare stops so many people from traveling these days. Disney could set the fares to be cheap enough that they are affordable, but again, only coinciding with a Resort stay. The important thing is, they'd get people staying at the resorts and the parks. That's where the money would be made. They could obviously still make a profit on the airfare too, but it wouldn't have to be as expensive as other airlines.

Airlines are almost always operating in the red, so I doubt Disney would want to have the burden of operating an airline.
Hate to agree, but I do. There is no upside in this. Add to the lack of profit all the headaches of all the additional gov't agencies airlines with which airlines must deal.

This has been talked about before - generally, folks say it wouldn't work because of all the places that people come from....

But that arguement ignores park demographics. Next time you are at Spaceship Earth, take a good hard look at the computer visitor map... where people say they are from. Notice a MAJOR concentration of East Coast?

What this tells me is that Disney COULD start an airline, service about 5 major airports, and cover close to 80% of their typical guests.

Good luck getting time slots out of an East Coast airport. To be profitiable and make money on the capital investment, planes need to fly all day long - no down time. They would have to get prime slots in major east coast airports to do so. And would have to somehow ensure full flights, but with limited back up flights they would not be able to overbook and bump.

Hooter's (yes, that Hooter's) tried to do a specialized air line. They would only fly full flights on super high popularity routes (like Newark to Vegas) and they ran the same sort of gimmicks as a Disney airline would (instead of Mickey on the plane, they had Hooters Girls). Despite these efforts, they could not make money on the project and they closed up shop. There used to be a Hooters branded plane on the Tarmac at EWR for the longest time. I use to see it all the time (the thing rarely flew)

I love the idea although I concede that airlines are not an easy money maker. But ignoring that can u imagine the creative paint jobs they could do? About the plane crash scenario: the same could be said for a cruise ship disaster so I disagree with that.
