Disney settles suit with EPCOT ride builder (from phillyburbs.com)

There were so many extremly cool pitches and plans for a really good space pavillion for epcot and they ended up picking the worst one and slashed the budgets of even that.

One plan would have been similar to Wonders of Life with multiple smaller attractions including a cablecar ride that simulated floating around in spcae as well as a simulator adventure.
Too bad that didnt come to fruition. I have heard of some of the rumors that "could" have been.

I think the interesting question to ponder here is, knowing everything that has happened with M:S (hindsight is 20/20, of course), the critical and fan reactions, the ETC lawsuit, the publicity, the reaction to the publicity by creating a new ride "experience" by disabling the centrifugal spin on the Green side—would M:S have been built again in its original configuration, or would a tamer alternative proposal have been developed?
Hind sight being 20/20 I would think that the original space pavilion concept would have received quite a bit more consideration. But none of us have a crystal ball that shows the future. At the time I think they made the right decision. While Epcot fan boys want hour long omni-mover, audio anamatronic attractions the majority of theme park guests want thrill based attractions.

those kinds of attractions im afraid live in the 80's and shall never return

dont forget the those fan boys argument that the attraction is a failure since there isnt a consistent wait time IE: TT = 60 minutes. M:S implemented new queue distribution into preshows if memory serves. I dont know the yearly ride stats though... I would like to see those.

How many guests opt for the green line vs. orange line? Which has the longer wait time? I think the majority of theme park guests avoid the orange ride, but admittedly I have no data to back up that claim. I know that in my party thrill rides are not a favourite.

From what I have experienced the orange side typically has the longer wait but like you I am going off of what I see. While your party might not like thrill rides it would appear that the majority of theme park goers are thrill seekers. Just look at what is under construction at US/IOA and Sea World.....2 roller coasters and a thrill attraction using the kuto robot arm.

Would love to see stats on the percentage of WDW guests that ride a thrill ride over the course of their vacation. It's funny, but the "typical" guest that I see walking the parks or eating in the restaurants are not the guests I see in the queue for EE or M:S (orange). Thrill rides are the attention grabbers from a marketing standpoint, but I'm wondering what percentage of guests actually ride them. Disney has a couple in each park, but the majority of stuff to do at WDW is not thrill ride related.

I am a fan of the more intense version of the attraction, it is great for what it is, although they cheaped out making the theme to be simulation, it would be so much better if the story was about a real mission (although I am sure that would of increased the cost of construction quite a lot with theming).

Plus Mission: Space was probably the reason why I went from just a reader on this site to an active poster, I used to love the almost daily construction updates back then... and ahh the ladder days.
