Disney Sequels?

These sequels will hurt the company in the long term. End of story. If you believe that 101 DALMATIONS II & the upcoming DUMBO II will do wonders for them in the coming years, then you are exactly the "naive and gullible" fans that Eisner loooooooooooooooves to go after.
I have said for years that many of Eisner's actions would eventually backfire on him.
And Guess what? They have. "This" is the longterm to which I had been referring to since the late '90's.

Animated sequels do nothing but hurt the bottom line.

Too true. I think the best way to drum up interest is like what prberk said. Re-releasing the classics. Its a great way to introduce young people to them.

Sorry, but I don't feel it's that harsh. I love Lady and the Tramp 2 and Return to Neverland, and I feel both add to the original stories, just like Jungle Book 2. In my book, they're more "classics" than crap like Pocahontas, Mulan and Hunchback, that had better treatment and more time in the making.

Just because you like them, doesn't mean that the company's bottom line is safe in the longterm. I am speaking of value, in that how much of a value people percieve Disney to be. It is obvious that their reputation has gone downhill; DCA & Walt Disney Pictures are now jokes, and WDP films such as DUMBO II and CINDERELLA II only add to this reputation.
Eisner & Co are alienating many of Disney's most loyal fans, and no matter how much one can try to sugarcoat it, that's just not good.
Both for the consumer AND the company.

Some long-time fans like you may feel allianated because, many times, you don't even give them a chance. But Disney is not aiming towards you, it's aiming towards the new market, the kids whose dads have DVDs and will get them the new movies thay just saw on theaters or that were just released. And actually, Disney animation is a joke simply because they're trying to fight fire with fire when they should be fighting fire with water. Disney started doing CGI movies with Pixar, lots of companies started doing the same; now Disney wants to kill its animation department and devote itself to CG movies. WRONG! I'd rather see them release these sequels, and great films like Lilo & Stitch and Treasure Planet, that'll show everyone that CG movies are just ANOTHER type of animated classics, not the next and only option.

The company has dwindled in quality; there is no denying it. Walt Disney once said "You're dead if you aim only for kids. Adults are only kids gown up, anyway." And Although the market has changed, there are still many fans of Disney who are adults, yet the Disney Channel, the majority of new animated films and even the Disney Store have, for the most part, all focused their aim on the pre-teen crowd. It is fine if some adults like watching Cindy 2 or 101 Dalmations II with their six year old kid, but the fact is that most adult fans don't; and, like it or not, many, many of Disney's fans -- the people who spend thousands of dollars in the theme parks & on Disneyana every year -- are over the age of 15. They are seeing a drastic decline in terms of a) quality and b) family entertainment value.
And Believe me; once Pixar tears up their contract with Eisner after the next two movies, Disney will be in trouble. I have yet to see TREASURE PLANET, but I did think ATLANTIS deserved a better reception from the public than it got. But, it didn't. And with the flops of TREASURE PLANET and DINOSAUR, the company needs a major turnaround. Films like LILO & STITCH and EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE are both proof that smaller movies can make a lot of money, so the company should produce more stuff like this.
But, believe you me ... this endless parade of animated sequels is not helping matters. In the long term, it will only make things worse.
