Disney rooms not up to par?

Before I start this thread, please understand that no other park comes even close to Disney in my eyes. It is the best, but I have a concern.

Not to long ago, I went with a group of friends to IOA, and stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel, (they paid). The rate was $139.00, a rate which is in line with a disney moderate resort. From the minute that I walked into the room, I loved it. Bed was AMAZING, standard in room refrigerator, CD player ,(a nice one), awesome quality decor.

While staying here, I wondered, "whats up with Disney?" I am a huge fan of the Contemporary, stayed MANY, MANY, MANY times, and have seen the hotel go through 3 major renovations. But in reality, the hotel has the same beds and equipment as a value resort. I know that the value resort is VERY comfortable, but the Contemporary is a premium resort. Shouldn't there be a noticable difference? (in the room, [i know the hotel itself is outstanding])

I mean there have been times where i paid over $300.00 night.

Let me know what you think? Maybe I am wrong!

Thanks, Noel:animwink:

maybe the room seemed better then the contemp ..but were there all the extra benefits of staying there .. like the monorial,I know nothing at all about those "other" parks in florida or any of the hotels near them .. simply not interested. since you mentioned only the contemp ..what about the Poly or the AKL?

Part of the Contemporary is where it is and what it has running thru it.

A bed is a bed. It doesn't really matter how good it is. You should be tired enough after a day in the park to sleep anywhere.

Just wondering, but how much did you use the CD player?

A AGREE!!

of course there is nothing better than the monorail going through! Or the setting. Nothing beets Disney,

But should it be just good enough to satisfy you because you are tired?

These are premium rates!

Dont get me wrong I would pay 500 is i had to for the contemp! Over HARD ROCK!

I am just saying, they should do more to make it feel "premium".

I hope no one gets upset!

Again, I love DISNEY.

P.S. GF, is nice, never stayed at the POLY, but looks like it needs a little rehab! (IMO)

Having just stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge, I can say, with confidence, that the beds there are INCREDIBLY comfortable. I usually don't like sleeping in a bed that's not my own...but those beds were actually MORE comfortable than my own! I don't know about rooms at the Contemporary, but Animal Kingdom Lodge is the best resort I have ever been to in terms of both ambience and comfortability of the rooms...plus the woman who cleaned our room made a different animal out of the wash cloths every day which amused me immensely...especially the day she made Pluto :)

Goof, I completely understand what you mean. Now dont get me wrong, I love Disney to death, but I understand what you are coming from. I am an architecture graduate, but since I love Disney I took a minor in Tourism/Marketing to get the juts of the whole entertainment architecture idea. Hotels, in general!!!!, that charge that amount as the Hard Rock should have those amenities and things of the such. Noooooowww, we must understand that hotels like Contemporary can charge that much since 1980 due to location and the monorail. See, Disney does not have to conform to hotel norms, since they offer things that no other hotel can offer....the Disney Spirit/Theme/Location. So, their hotels can lack some luster IN THE ROOMS, but until the playing field is level (which will never happen b/c there can be no hotels as close as the Contemporary) they dont have to worry, Disney is in a class of its onw. But they should still outdo other hotels, so things like this never come up....Loyal Disney guests should be treated the best...I would suggest it to a hotel manager or suggestion box.....

A refridgerator and CD Player!!! Our family would use both, if they were available.

As it is we're going to be shelling out $150.00 to rent a refridgerator anyhow for baby milk.

And if there was a CD player then it would get used every morning.

I don't know I stayed in the Tower this past August, and the rooms blew away the French Quarter rooms I had stayed in earlier in my trip. The tower room had a VERY NICE interior, I was blown away at how nice it was.

that was a really good question, and I had a very simple thought .. the price of the Hard Rock may have been so "reasonable" because they do have to compete with the Disney Resorts. I guess a few people might be excited about something as simple as a CD player ..I am more excited about the fact that looking out over the World I can see the Castle, SSE, or from my room at the AKL, live animals

I think Thespis said it best .. location location location

This will sound really silly to you all I'm sure. But when we were there for our Honeymoon, 10 yrs ago the end of this month, we stayed at the cbr. One thing I loved was the little mickey soaps, shampoos, etc. that was in our room everyday. I had to take some for souvenirs   Things like that make Disney Special. The small touches like that. I can't believe it will be ten years since we've been able to go (going in April), but I can't wait for my daughter to see the little mickey soaps

well I must confess .. I have tons and tons of the soaps, shampoos and shower caps ..not to mention the writing paper, enevlopes, note pads ..and do not disturb signs from the resorts .. Goofette, I know there is no joy like taking a child, If I were rich ( or won the lottery) I would take extra kids to WDW with us !!

A few comments on this subject:

Hard Rock Hotel at Universal is brand new.
Contemporary Resort is 30 years old.
Does Hard Rock have Refillable mugs? Disney Does
Does Hard Rock have a Monorail? Disney Does
How is the VIEW at the Hard Rock Hotel?
It's spectacular at The Contemporary.
Does HardRock have 3 Restaurants, 2 snack bars, a childrens playground, a baby sitting service, 2 pools and a HUGE Video Arcade? The Contemporary does.

While I will admit, for the price you pay for the tower rooms, it wouldn't hurt Disney to throw in a coffee maker and a Refrigerater. however, I think Disney does a better job than Universal of making your stay Magical....but that's just my opinoin...I could be wrong

Until significant numbers of people stop staying in Disney resorts, there is no reason to either "wake up" or "smell the coffee". You may have had an unfortunate experience with a "kinda dirty" room but apparently that is the exception, not the norm. Disney resorts are still the most popular in Orlando due mostly to their location but also because they are VERY predictable. You know when you book a Disney resort room that the odds are overwhelming that your room will be nicely appointed and VERY clean; and if it's not somebody will fix it fast. With most off-site resorts it's a crap-shoot.
This is probably why all of PO will be re-opened before long...
