Disney Resorts packed?

I went to Disneys vacation site after seeing so much info. on discounted prices for the resorts. We are using DVC points and wanted to check whether it would be better to use cash this time.
We are going first week of Nov.

The site basically showed no rooms available at any resort with the exception of one from each catergory. IE, nothing available at any Deluxe resorts except Beach Club; nothing in Moderates except Coronado Springs.

I'm shocked! I though Disney was hurting for business.

Have they shut down major portions of the resorts to spread guests around or are they bursting at the seams for early November?

Just curious. Was kind of looking forward to light attendance.

That's strange.... I too thought Disney was practically begging people to come. Maybe because of the celebration... but even then I still can't see it.

I did a little research after I read this because I found it hard to believe that so many resorts were supposedly completely booked at this time.

The resorts have rooms set aside for DVC members and others at a cheaper rate and other discounts. They do that so they can say they have lower rates. While it is true they DO have lower rates, there's only a few rooms available at these lower rates at each resort.

Airlines do the same thing. The advertise flights from 150 bucks round trip...but there's only 5 to 10 tickets sold at this low price for each flight. If you don't call far enough in advance, you won't get these low rates.

My guess is that the low rate rooms are all booked up but you will still be available to get a room, just not as cheap. It's kind of a scam, but it's completely legal.

I would STILL try and barter with them for lower room rates, they have to be hurting for business right about now.
Good Luck!!:)

Scooter-

When I was entering info. into their ressie system, I simply provided my vacation dates, # of people and what resort I wanted. Nothing about discounts(this is what I originally wanted to find out) or me being a DVC member.

In each case, I had to wait while an "alternate" resort was located.

Needless to say, I have not verbally communicated with a Disney CM. Just did all this through their website.

I have read since my initial post that they have closed major portions of all resorts. Hoping to see if that's the deal.

Hmmmm...ok

It STILL doesn't seem possible that so many resorts are booked up during the slow season and while the country is in the middle of a crisis. But who knows...maybe there are lots of conventions filling up the resorts. Disney likes to book them in the slow season.

I'd give them a call. It's always better to actually talk to a real person.

again..good luck:)

I went in December a few years back and stayed at the Caribbean Beach. IF you can believe this, only half of the buildings were being used. The others were just vacant. So I can believe that they have shut down major portions and will leave it like that. That way they don't have to schedule housekeeping etc.

I just checked the site myself and I think they may have system problems because I was able to get a reservation for room at all of the value and moderates but only AK Lodge. Maybe they want you to call or maybe their web application is not functioning correctly or is down for scheduled maintenance. Try again tomorrow and I'll bet there are rooms available.

I very much doubt that they are full. My neighbor called just last week "out of the blue" and made reservations for next week. Isn't that cool that they can do that? I thought so but if you are really in the need to go to WDW may I suggest going to TTC and to customer services and ask them about the "deals of the day in the blackbook". You can get some really good deals on rooms from all types of hotels. Most of the time they are the value but on a good day there are some deluxe for a good deal! But the only problem with that is it depends on how long the room was saved and how long you are staying... most ppl that come from far away stay for a week. I have no idea why I went into such deep detail into this... probably just to get off the subject of my class right now: computer applications... how boring!!!! Need any more info? Just post and i'll reply

Hey, thanks everybody! I went ahead and called Disney and found out in fact that the resorts are wide open. The CM advised there must be a problem with the site.

Rates are good, especially when you keeping asking for "only the best deal."

We are going to stick with our vacation points however. Having a two bedroom condo (essentially) is awful nice at OKW.
